Murray is compact, but almost every way of moving through Salt Lake Valley passes through it. State Street runs its full length, I-15 and I-215 both cut across it, and TRAX lines meet at Murray Central. That concentration is why a city of roughly 50,000 people generates the crash volume it does — and why Murray shows up repeatedly on lists of Utah cities with the most dangerous roads.
The same corridor that records among the highest crash counts of any state highway in Utah runs straight through Murray. Left turns across multiple lanes, dense driveway access to retail, and pedestrians crossing mid-block are the recurring pattern here.
Two interstates and their on-ramps inside a small footprint. Merging collisions and rear-end chains at backed-up ramps are common, and the speeds involved make injuries worse than a comparable crash on a surface street.

Deadlines that end cases
Four years for most injury claims from a vehicle crash (§ 78B-2-307). Two years for wrongful death. One year to file a notice of claim if a government entity is involved — UTA and TRAX, a city vehicle, or a road hazard the city failed to repair. That last one catches people out constantly, and once it passes the claim is gone.
