Utah DOT Crash Data
Bluffdale's Most Dangerous Roads
Crashes on Bluffdale's roads rose from 157 in 2018 to 405 in 2024, about 2.6 times as many, while crashes on non-freeway roads across the seven counties in this data fell. Of the 57 Utah cities with enough data for a page like this, only one grew faster. The two roads with the most crashes are both state routes: Camp Williams Road and Porter Rockwell Boulevard.
The ranking below comes from UDOT's crash records for Bluffdale, January 1, 2018 through August 4, 2025. Each crash was placed on the street where it happened using the state road map, with the officer's own description of the road breaking close calls. I-15 and freeway-ramp crashes appear in their own section, crashes on private property are not ranked, and a crash is serious or fatal when the report lists a death or a suspected serious injury.
The records hold 2,444 crashes inside the city. Of those, 417 were on I-15 or a freeway ramp, 47 were on private property and 9 could not be matched to a road, which leaves 1,971 street crashes. Only 33 of them, 1.7%, were serious or fatal (2.6% regionally), and 4 people died in 4 crashes.
Crashes More Than Doubled Since 2018
Year by year the count climbed: 157, 170, 147, 243, 266, 323 and 405. January through early August 2025 already held 260. Across the seven counties, non-freeway crashes went the other way, from 41,657 in 2018 to 37,964 in 2024.
Serious crashes did not climb with the total. The records show between 3 and 7 a year from 2019 through 2024, and only 1 in 2018, a low figure this page does not treat as a trend. The growth itself is concentrated: Porter Rockwell Boulevard went from 11 crashes in 2018 to 107 in 2024.
Six Bluffdale Roads, Ranked

The fourth death was on Jordan Narrows Road, which had only 12 crashes. Camp Williams Road and Redwood Road are both labeled SR-68 on the state road map; counted together they had 645 crashes.
Porter Rockwell Boulevard at Camp Williams Road
Sorted by serious or fatal crashes, Porter Rockwell Boulevard moves ahead of Camp Williams Road, 10 to 9. Of Porter Rockwell's 10, 7 happened at its junction with Camp Williams Road, where the records list 130 crashes on Porter Rockwell and 52 more on Camp Williams, 182 in all. Every one of Porter Rockwell's serious crashes happened in 2022 or later: 1 in 2022, 6 in 2023 and 3 in 2024.
Rear-End Crashes, Animals and Work Zones
Bluffdale's crash mix is unusual. Rear-end crashes were 43.4% of the total, second-highest among the 57 cities (30.2% regionally), while side-impact crashes were 18.3%, the lowest of the 57. Driveway crashes, at 2.0%, were less common than in any other city. A wild animal was involved in 100 crashes (5.1%), fifth-highest of the 57, and 86 were coded as work-zone crashes (4.4%, sixth-highest).
In the serious crashes, a driver who ignored a signal or sign was flagged 9 times out of 33 (27.3%), second-highest of the 57 (12.3% regionally), and side-impact crashes were 14 of the 33. Older drivers appeared in only 8.7% of crashes, among the four lowest shares (14.9% regionally).
Counted Apart: I-15 and Its Ramps
I-15 had 391 crashes inside Bluffdale, 3 serious or fatal, and 1 death. The Bangerter Highway interchange ramps added 21, 2 of them serious. Freeways and ramps were 17.1% of the city's crashes (21.4% across the seven counties). Property-damage crashes below Utah's reporting threshold are not in the records, so every count here is a floor.
Claims, Coverage and the Clock in Bluffdale
In a rear-end crash or any other, your own personal injury protection pays first, with at least $3,000 in medical benefits regardless of fault (Utah Code § 31A-22-307). A claim against the other driver for pain and other general damages requires an injury past the § 31A-22-309 threshold, such as a broken bone, permanent impairment or medical expenses over $3,000; that limit does not apply to uninsured motorist claims. When the at-fault driver leaves and is never identified, the vehicle is treated as uninsured (§ 31A-22-305(2)(b)). Any fault of your own reduces your recovery, which is barred unless the others' combined fault is greater (§ 78B-5-818). Most injury lawsuits must be filed within four years (§ 78B-2-307); a claim that a state or city road was unsafe requires a written notice of claim within one year (§ 63G-7-402). Our Bluffdale car accident page covers local claims, and our post on rear-end collision fault explains how those cases are decided. The guides cover how fault is proven, PIP claims and filing deadlines.
The Damages Side of a Claim
- Care and lost work: emergency and follow-up treatment, physical therapy, imaging, and the paychecks an injury costs you.
- Personal toll: pain, stress and sleep problems, and the plans and activities you have to set aside.
- Later costs: treatment still ahead, any lasting loss of earning ability, and vehicle repair or replacement.
