Utah DOT Crash Data
Clearfield's Most Dangerous Roads
Four streets, Main Street, Antelope Drive, 700 South and State Street, account for 1,916 of the 3,235 street crashes UDOT recorded in Clearfield between January 2018 and August 4, 2025, and 51 of the 91 that were serious or fatal. I-15 and its ramps added 1,383 more, about 29% of every crash recorded in the city. This page ranks Clearfield's streets and looks at where the worst crashes happened.
We started from UDOT's record of every crash inside Clearfield's limits from January 1, 2018 through August 4, 2025, where the public series ends, and assigned each one to the street it was plotted on, giving weight to the road named in the officer's report. I-15 and ramp crashes are tallied separately; crashes on private property or without a usable location are not part of the street totals. Serious or fatal means the report lists a death or a suspected serious injury.
Of 4,830 crashes in all, 1,383 were on I-15 and its ramps, 172 were on private property and 40 could not be placed on a street, leaving 3,235 street crashes. 91 of those were serious or fatal (2.8%, a little above the 2.6% for street crashes across the seven counties in this data: Salt Lake, Utah, Davis, Weber, Summit, Cache and Washington), and 9 people died. Reports noted at least a possible injury in 36.5% of them, against 32.1% regionally.
Seven Serious Crashes at One Highway 193 Junction
West of Main Street, Highway 193 (SR-193) recorded 187 crashes, 9 of them serious or fatal, a rate of 4.8%. Seven of those nine happened at H Street, where the road logged 63 crashes in all. Among the five busiest junctions on each of Clearfield's fifteen busiest streets, no other had more than three serious crashes. 8 of Highway 193's serious crashes were side impacts.
The stretch also has an unusual share of overnight crashes: 25 of its 187 (13.4%) happened between midnight and 6 a.m., against 5.2% on Clearfield's streets overall, and 28.3% happened in the dark. The records do not explain the pattern.
Clearfield Streets in Order of Crash Count
The list follows the number of crashes recorded on each street within city limits, for streets with at least 50. Where two of these streets cross, a crash is counted once, on the street named in the report. The cross streets given are the busiest junctions on each street.
- Main Street — 581 crashes, 12 serious or fatal, 3 deaths, the most of any Clearfield street. The 650 North junction alone had 156 crashes, followed by 300 North (99). Pedestrians were involved in 4 of its serious crashes.
- Antelope Drive (1700 South, SR-108) — 474 crashes and 16 serious or fatal, the most serious crashes of any street in the city, though none were fatal. Chelemes Way (58) and 1000 East (55) are its busiest junctions; UDOT estimates reach about 42,000 vehicles a day.
- 700 South (SR-193) — 462 crashes, 12 serious or fatal, 2 deaths. Rear-end collisions are 46.1% of the total, and the 1000 East junction had 134. Speed was flagged in 5 of its serious crashes.
- State Street (SR-126) — 399 crashes, 11 serious or fatal, 1 death. Its 700 South junction had 153 crashes, and motorcycles were in 4 of its serious crashes.
- 1000 East — 191 crashes, 5 serious or fatal. A teen driver was involved in 44.0% of them; State Street (45) is its busiest junction.
- Highway 193 (SR-193) — 187 crashes, 9 serious or fatal. 63 of the crashes, and 7 of the serious ones, were at H Street; 1000 West (49) and Center Street (45) follow.
- 1000 West — 127 crashes, 7 serious or fatal. Pedestrians were involved in 3 of the serious ones, and 300 North (31) is its busiest junction.
- 650 North — 94 crashes and none serious or fatal. More than half, 52, were at Main Street, and a driver left the scene in 14.
- 300 North — 91 crashes, 1 serious or fatal. A vehicle left the roadway in 20.9% of its crashes, the highest share among these ten; 1000 West (23) is the busiest junction.
- Center Street — 53 crashes, 2 serious or fatal, with State Street (15) and Main Street (11) its busiest junctions.
These ten streets hold 2,659 of Clearfield's 3,235 street crashes (82.2%), 75 of the 91 serious or fatal crashes and 6 of the 9 street deaths. Main Street, at 18.0% of the total, leads, but no single street dominates the way some cities' busiest roads do.
Antelope Drive Leads on Serious Crashes
Counted by serious or fatal crashes, Antelope Drive moves to first with 16, ahead of Main Street and 700 South at 12 each and State Street at 11. By rate, 1000 West is the most likely of the ten listed streets to produce a serious crash, 5.5%, followed by Highway 193 at 4.8%. Antelope Drive's serious crashes came without a death, while 3 of Main Street's 12 were fatal. With counts this small, a few crashes can reorder the list.
Side Impacts, Head-On Crashes and People on Foot
Angle collisions (33.9%) and rear-end crashes (32.9%) make up most of Clearfield's street crashes. The serious ones look different: 39 were side impacts, 34 fell in the group UDOT reports as single-vehicle or not applicable, which includes a vehicle hitting a pedestrian or a fixed object, and 8 were head-on (8.8% of serious crashes, against 6.9% regionally). Pedestrians were in 95 street crashes, 2.9% against 2.0% across the seven counties, and 14 of those were serious or fatal.
Hit and run was flagged in 10.4% of crashes (8.6% regionally), though only 3 of those were serious. A teen driver appears in 26.1%. Serious or fatal street crashes numbered 4 in 2018 and 7 in 2019, then between 11 and 18 a year from 2020 through 2024; across the seven counties the increase was smaller, from 844 in 2018 to 1,045 in 2024. Part of the jump may reflect how severity was coded rather than more serious crashes.
Close to Three in Ten on I-15
I-15 recorded 1,364 crashes inside Clearfield, 22 of them serious or fatal, and 4 deaths. Including ramps, freeway crashes made up 28.6% of the city's total, compared with 21.4% across the seven counties. An I-15 crash was less likely to be serious than a street crash, 1.61% against 2.81%. The data leaves out crashes that were never reported, minor property-damage crashes below Utah's reporting threshold, and anything after August 4, 2025.
Insurance and Time Limits After a Clearfield Crash
In Utah your own personal injury protection pays medical bills first, at least $3,000 no matter who caused the crash (Utah Code § 31A-22-307). A claim against the other driver for pain and other general damages is allowed once the injury meets the § 31A-22-309 threshold, such as a fracture, a permanent impairment or medical expenses over $3,000; an uninsured motorist claim is not subject to that threshold. If the driver who hit you fled and is never found, the vehicle is treated as uninsured (§ 31A-22-305(2)(b)). Your damages are reduced by your own percentage of fault, and you recover only if the other parties' fault is greater than yours (§ 78B-5-818). Most injury suits have a four-year deadline (§ 78B-2-307), but a claim against the city or UDOT over an unsafe road needs a written notice of claim within one year (§ 63G-7-402). Our Clearfield car accident page explains these claims, and Clearfield's most dangerous intersections covers pedestrian and bicycle crashes at signals. Recoverable Costs After a Clearfield Crash
- Expenses and lost pay: emergency and follow-up treatment, therapy, medication, time off work and vehicle repair or replacement.
- Pain and lost routine: physical pain and the parts of daily life an injury puts on hold, from your job to time with family.
- Long-term needs: care still to come, any lasting loss of earning ability, and household help if the injury does not heal fully.
