Free Consultations by Phone, Video or In Person
Short answer: A consultation with West Injury Law is free, and you choose the format: a phone call, a video call, or a meeting at our Draper office. An attorney reviews every case at intake. If you decide to hire us, you can sign the paperwork electronically from your phone or in person. You pay nothing up front, and no attorney fees unless we win.
Three ways to meet, same conversation
After an injury, getting to a law office can be the hardest part. You may be off work, unable to drive, caring for kids, or living hours away. So we do not make the office a requirement.
- Phone. The quickest option. Call (801) 921-5134 and tell us what happened.
- Video. Useful if you want to see who you are talking to, or show us something: a vehicle, a bruise, a document, the place you fell.
- In person. Our office is at 13894 S Bangerter Pkwy, Suite 200, Draper, UT 84020. Let us know ahead of time if you need an accommodation or want a family member to join you.
The format does not change what you get. Each one is a real conversation about your situation, not a sales call, and each one is free.
What happens during the consultation
Most consultations follow the same path:
- What happened. Where, when and how you were hurt, and who else was involved.
- Your injuries and care so far. Where you have been treated, what you have been told, and what is still bothering you.
- Insurance. Your policy, the other side's policy if you know it, and whether anyone has asked you for a recorded statement.
- Deadlines. Most Utah injury claims must be filed within four years (Utah Code 78B-2-307), but a claim involving a government entity needs a written notice of claim within one year (Utah Code 63G-7-402). We check which applies to you.
- Your questions. Fees, costs, timeline, who you will be working with, how often you will hear from us. Ask all of it.
An attorney reviews every case at intake. If we think we can help, we will say so and explain what comes next. If we do not, we will tell you that too, and try to point you in a useful direction.
What to bring or send
You do not need everything. Call even if all you have is the date and the other driver's name. But if you have any of these, they help:
- The police or crash report number, or the agency that responded.
- Photos of the scene, vehicles, injuries or hazard.
- Your auto insurance card or declarations page.
- Any information you have for the other driver, property owner or business.
- Names of the ER, clinics, chiropractors or therapists you have seen.
- Letters, emails or texts from any insurance company.
- Any settlement offer or form someone has asked you to sign.
For a phone or video consultation, you can text or email photos and documents ahead of time. For an in-person meeting, bring them along, or just bring your phone.
One thing to avoid before we talk: do not sign a release or accept a check from an insurer. A release usually ends the claim for good. See Should I accept the first settlement offer?
A note about recording
We say this up front so it is never a surprise: we record our calls, including consultation calls. We do it so nothing you tell us gets lost, so the call can be summarized accurately into your file, and so the attorney reviewing your case can act on the details quickly without asking you to repeat your story. If you have questions about that, ask us at the start of the call.
Signing up: electronic or in person
If you decide to hire us, you choose how to sign.
- E-signing. We send the agreement and authorization forms to your email or phone, and you sign on screen. You can do it from anywhere, without printing or scanning anything.
- In person. Some people prefer paper and a face across the table. Come to the Draper office and we will go through it together.
Either way, the agreement is in writing, as Utah requires for contingent fees (Utah RPC 1.5(c)). It spells out the fee and how case costs are handled. Our fee is one-third of the recovery. We advance the case costs, and they are repaid from the recovery. Read it before you sign, and ask about anything that is unclear. We would rather answer ten questions now than one surprised question at the end.
After you sign
Once you sign, we handle all communication with the insurance companies. You will hear from us at least monthly, calls are returned within 24 hours and usually the same day, and you can text our general line or the individual lines of the people working on your file. The details are in What to Expect After You Hire Us and How We Keep You Informed.
En español
Every client can reach someone at our firm who speaks Spanish. You can have your consultation in Spanish by phone, video or in person, and keep working with us in Spanish for the life of the case. Hablamos Español.
Why we do it this way
We are a boutique firm, and battle-ready. A small team can offer flexible meeting options and still prepare every claim to be taken seriously by the insurer on the other side. Making it easy to start is part of that. So is being honest in the first conversation about what a claim looks like.
Common questions
Is the consultation really free?
Yes. There is no charge for the consultation, whether or not you hire us.
Does a free consultation obligate me to hire you?
No. You can take the information and decide later, or talk to other firms. Our list of questions to ask an injury lawyer works for any consultation.
I live outside Utah. Can I still do this?
Yes. Phone and video consultations and e-signing were built for that. See Hurt in Utah but Live Somewhere Else?
Can I get a rough idea of what my case is worth first?
Our settlement calculator walks through the main factors. A real answer depends on your medical records, which is one reason treatment matters so much.
Who will I be talking to?
Call (801) 921-5134 or send our legal team a message to set up a time. Free consultation. No attorney fees unless we win. Hablamos Español.
