Utah DOT Crash Data

Bountiful's Most Dangerous Roads

500 West, the stretch of US-89 through Bountiful, had 589 of the 3,348 street crashes UDOT recorded in the city from January 2018 through August 4, 2025, and 20 of the 84 that were serious or fatal. Side-impact collisions are unusually common here: 42.2% of Bountiful's street crashes, one of the five highest shares among the 57 cities in this data.

This ranking draws on UDOT's crash records for Bountiful, every crash located inside city limits from January 1, 2018 to August 4, 2025, the most recent date published. Crashes were assigned to the street where they were plotted, with the officer's named road taking priority. I-15 and its ramps are tallied apart from the streets, and private-property crashes or crashes without a usable location are excluded from the street totals. Serious or fatal means a death or a suspected serious injury was reported.

The city's 3,906 crashes split into 3,348 on streets, 417 on I-15 and its ramps, 126 on private property and 15 that could not be matched to a street. 84 of the street crashes were serious or fatal (2.5%, close to the 2.6% for street crashes in the seven counties covered: Salt Lake, Utah, Davis, Weber, Summit, Cache and Washington) and 5 people died. At least a possible injury was noted in 31.2%.

Older and Younger Drivers, Rarely Distracted Ones

An older driver was involved in 23.1% of Bountiful's street crashes, against 14.9% across the seven counties; only three of the 57 cities have a higher share. Older drivers also appear in 22 of the 84 serious or fatal crashes. A teen driver was involved in 28.2% (23.8% regionally) and in 22 serious crashes. These flags say who was driving, not who caused the crash.

Distraction, by contrast, was flagged in only 4.9% of street crashes, the lowest share of the 57 cities and half the regional 9.8%. Hit and run (5.6%) and impaired driving (0.7%) were also below average. Speed was flagged in 5.5% of all street crashes but in 18 of the 84 serious ones.

Bountiful Streets, Most Crashes to Fewest

Streets are ordered by the number of crashes recorded on them inside city limits; the ten with the most are shown. A crash where two listed streets meet counts once, on the street the report names, and the cross streets mentioned are each street's busiest junctions.

  • 500 West (US-89) — 589 crashes, 20 serious or fatal, 1 death. Angle collisions are 48.6% of its crashes; the 500 South (116) and 400 North (100) junctions see the most. An older driver was involved in 154 of its crashes.
  • 500 South — 322 crashes but only 3 serious or fatal, the lowest rate on this list. Its 500 West junction accounts for 99, and UDOT estimates reach about 25,000 vehicles a day.
  • Main Street — 296 crashes, 11 serious or fatal. The 400 North junction had 60 crashes and 5 of the serious ones; motorcycles were in 4 of the street's serious crashes.
  • 200 West — 268 crashes, 6 serious or fatal, 1 death. 400 North (47) and 500 South (38) are its busiest junctions, and yearly crashes fell from 56 in 2018 to 31 in 2024.
  • Orchard Drive — 225 crashes, 3 serious or fatal. Half its crashes, 50.2%, were angle collisions; 1800 South (31) is its busiest junction.
  • 400 North — 201 crashes, 2 serious or fatal. 56 of them were at 500 West.
  • 2600 South — 127 crashes, 4 serious or fatal. Rear-end crashes lead at 40.9%, and UDOT estimates reach about 26,000 vehicles a day, the highest on this list.
  • 400 East — 113 crashes, 3 serious or fatal. A vehicle left the road in 19.5% of its crashes, the highest share among these ten; 400 North (16) is its busiest junction.
  • Highway 89 (US-89) — 113 crashes, 3 serious or fatal, all 3 of them at 2600 South, which accounts for 61 of its crashes; 2500 South (44) follows.
  • Center Street — 100 crashes, 2 serious or fatal. Angle collisions are 57.0% of the total, and an older driver was involved in 38; 500 West (32) is its busiest junction.

The ten streets hold 2,354 of Bountiful's 3,348 street crashes (70.3%), 57 of the 84 serious or fatal ones and 2 of the 5 deaths. 500 West stands apart, with nearly twice the crashes of 500 South and almost twice the serious crashes of Main Street, the next highest.

Severity Off the Top of the List

Ranked by serious or fatal crashes, 500 West (20) and Main Street (11) lead, and Main Street's rate, 3.7%, is the highest of the ten listed streets. Just off the list, Bountiful Boulevard recorded 70 crashes, 4 of them serious (5.7%). Single-vehicle crashes are its most common type, 38.6%, and speed was flagged in 3 of its serious crashes. 500 South sits at the other end, second by volume but 0.9% serious.

Turning Conflicts, Head-On Crashes and Busy Middays

Angle collisions (42.2%) far outnumber rear-end crashes (23.0%) on Bountiful's streets; regionally the two are close, 32.6% and 30.2%. Among serious or fatal crashes, 40 were angle collisions and 10 were head-on (11.9%, against 6.9% regionally). Driveway-related crashes were 8.5% of the total, against 6.0%.

More crashes happened between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m., 36.5%, than the regional 32.4%, and Sunday was by far the quietest day with 196. Over the complete years 2018 to 2024, December had the most crashes (305) and April the fewest (191). Street crashes fell from 555 in 2018 to 449 in 2024, with a pandemic-era low of 361 in 2020, while serious or fatal crashes went from 7 to 14.

A Small Freeway Share

I-15 recorded 412 crashes inside Bountiful, 4 of them serious or fatal, and no deaths. Freeway and ramp crashes were 10.7% of the city's total, about half the 21.4% across the seven counties. Missing from all of these counts: crashes nobody reported, minor property-damage crashes below Utah's reporting threshold, and anything after August 4, 2025.

Insurance, Fault and Deadlines in Bountiful Cases

First, your own personal injury protection covers medical expenses up to at least $3,000 regardless of fault (Utah Code § 31A-22-307). Second, a claim for pain and other general damages against the at-fault driver requires an injury over the § 31A-22-309 threshold, such as a fracture, permanent impairment or more than $3,000 in medical costs, a threshold that does not limit an uninsured motorist claim. A hit-and-run vehicle that is never identified is treated as uninsured (§ 31A-22-305(2)(b)). Utah lowers your recovery by your share of fault and bars it unless the others' share is larger (§ 78B-5-818). Lawsuits for most injuries must be filed within four years (§ 78B-2-307), but a claim against a city or the state over a dangerous road needs a written notice of claim within one year (§ 63G-7-402). Damages Available to Bountiful Crash Victims

  • Out-of-pocket losses: hospital and clinic bills, therapy, prescriptions, lost wages and the cost of fixing or replacing your vehicle.
  • Personal harm: pain, limits on what you can do, and the time an injury takes from work, family and the things you enjoy.
  • Future costs: treatment still needed, earning power that may not return, and in-home help when recovery is partial.

Sources Behind the Bountiful Figures

Data: UDOT Crash_Locations, the state's public crash records, all crash types from January 1, 2018 through August 4, 2025. City limits: UGRC's current municipal boundaries, applied to every year. Street assignment: the nearest UGRC Utah Roads segment within 35 meters, favoring the road the officer named, which agrees with the reported road in roughly nine of ten crashes statewide. Serious or fatal: a reported death or suspected serious injury. Flags reflect what officers recorded, not fault. Comparisons use street crashes across the seven counties in this data. Every city we have ranked this way is listed on our statewide page, Utah’s most dangerous roads.
