Bountiful Rideshare Accident Lawyer
Hurt in an Uber or Lyft in Bountiful? Which insurer pays depends on the driver's app status when the crash happened, and our legal team works to document it. Free consultation, no attorney fees unless we win. Hablamos Español.
Bountiful has no FrontRunner stop of its own, so a lot of rideshare trips here connect residents to places outside town: the Woods Cross station at 750 South 800 West, a flight out of Salt Lake City, a night downtown with no plan to drive home, or a hospital visit at Lakeview. Those rides pour onto I-15, Legacy Parkway, 400 North and 500 South, then climb the steep streets of the east bench. When one of them ends in a collision, the first task is sorting out which layer of insurance was switched on.
Under Utah law that layer can be as small as $50,000 per person or as large as $1,000,000 per occurrence. It does not matter whether you were the rider, a motorist the rideshare car hit on Main Street, someone walking to a shop, or a Bountiful resident driving for Uber or Lyft yourself; the app data decides where the claim goes.
Sorting Out the App Status in a Bountiful Crash
Utah Code § 13-51-108 sets insurance minimums by what the driver was doing on the app:
- Logged out. The rideshare policies stay dormant and the driver's personal insurance is the source of payment. Because a personal insurer may exclude rideshare driving (§ 13-51-108(11)), a dispute over whether the driver was really offline can leave both insurers pointing at each other.
- Logged in and waiting. The statute calls this the waiting period and requires at least $50,000 per injured person, $100,000 per crash, and $30,000 in property damage coverage.
- From accepting a request until the rider exits. That window is a prearranged ride under § 13-51-102, and Utah requires no less than $1,000,000 per occurrence of liability coverage for it, plus PIP and uninsured and underinsured motorist coverage as the Insurance Code requires.
Legacy Parkway carries a 65 mph limit and has long gaps between exits, so a driver who taps accept on the way north can cover real distance before the next ramp. Timing disputes are common, and we request the acceptance time, trip history and location data directly. Our rideshare insurance guide describes each period in more detail.
Who Has a Rideshare Claim in Bountiful
A claim can belong to any of these people:
- Passengers headed to the Woods Cross station, the airport, or home from Salt Lake City.
- Other drivers and their passengers hit by an Uber or Lyft on 400 North, 500 South or I-15.
- Pedestrians and cyclists on Main Street or the east-bench streets when a rideshare car struck them.
- Rideshare drivers injured by someone else's mistake while on the app.
Each role can reach a different set of policies. If your crash involved ordinary vehicles only, see our Bountiful car accident lawyer page.
Utah Law for a Bountiful Rideshare Case
PIP pays the first medical bills and a share of lost wages no matter who was at fault (§ 31A-22-307; our no-fault overview explains the limits). Section 78B-5-818 lets you recover only when the defendants' combined fault exceeds yours. You generally have four years to sue, but when UDOT, UTA, Davis County or Bountiful City is part of the claim, a notice of claim is due within one year (§ 63G-7-402); see our Utah deadlines guide.

Bountiful Uber and Lyft Accident Questions
I was riding in an Uber on Legacy Parkway when it ran off the road. Who pays?
If the Uber driver caused it during your trip, the prearranged-ride coverage of at least $1,000,000 per occurrence is the main source. If another vehicle forced the car off the road, that driver's insurer is responsible too, and the ride's uninsured and underinsured coverage can fill a gap.
A Lyft driver hit my car on 400 North but says the app was off. What now?
Then the driver's personal policy is the likely payer, unless the trip records show otherwise. We request the app history, because a personal insurer may deny coverage if the driver was really working, and your own underinsured motorist coverage can help if limits are low.
I drive for Lyft and was hit on I-15 while waiting for a request. Am I covered?
The at-fault driver's liability policy comes first. While you were logged in, Utah required uninsured and underinsured motorist coverage for the waiting period, which may add to what you can recover, and your PIP still pays early bills.
What does a Bountiful rideshare accident lawyer cost?
There is no charge to talk with us, and we work on contingency. You pay nothing up front, and no attorney fees unless we win.
What is the deadline for a Bountiful rideshare claim?
Four years for most injury suits and two for wrongful death. A claim against UDOT, UTA, Davis County or Bountiful City needs a notice of claim within one year.
What evidence should I keep after the crash?
Your trip screen and receipt, the driver's name and plate, messages sent through the app, photos of the vehicles and road, and the name of the police agency with its case number.
