Vineyard Car Accident Lawyer

Crash on Geneva Road, the Vineyard Connector or Main Street in Vineyard? Get a free case review and pay no attorney fees unless we win.

A New City on an Old Steel Mill Site

Vineyard went from 139 residents in the 2010 census to 12,543 in 2020, most of them in neighborhoods built on the former Geneva Steel property beside Utah Lake. Its road network is young: the Vineyard Connector (SR-176) carries traffic west of I-15, Geneva Road (SR-114) follows the lakeside edge of the valley, and the FrontRunner station opened in 2022. See our Vineyard personal injury page for claims other than car crashes.

Vineyard Connector (SR-176)

A fast arterial that moves Vineyard traffic north and south without using Geneva Road. Drivers carry near-freeway speeds into signals and newly opened intersections, and rear-end and angle crashes follow.

Geneva Road (SR-114)

The older lakeside highway from Provo through Orem to Pleasant Grove, two lanes in some stretches and five in others. Merges where the road narrows, left turns and driveway exits onto fast traffic are the usual conflicts; under Utah Code § 41-6a-903 a driver entering from a driveway must yield to vehicles already on the road.

Main Street and the Connector intersection

The station's opening was pushed back months while the intersection of Main Street and the Vineyard Connector was redesigned to handle growth. Heavy turning movements there mix commuters with drivers heading for the station's park-and-ride lot.

FrontRunner Vineyard station

The station at 130 East Market Street, just north of the Connector, opened August 12, 2022. People walking and biking to a train arrive in the same minutes drivers are rushing to catch it, which produces pedestrian and cyclist crashes; see our pedestrian claims guide.

Construction zones

With new blocks still going up, temporary striping, lane shifts and heavy trucks are routine. When a work zone layout contributed, the claim may involve a contractor or a public agency and the one-year notice rule.

Who investigates a Vineyard crash

The Utah County Sheriff's Office provides all of Vineyard's law enforcement through a Vineyard Division based at 125 South Main Street, and the Sheriff's Office has its own Accident Investigation Team for serious collisions. Crashes on I-15 east of the city are usually worked by the Utah Highway Patrol.

PIP Pays Before Anyone Decides Fault

Your own policy's personal injury protection covers at least $3,000 of medical expenses and 85% of lost gross income, to a maximum of $250 per week for 52 weeks (Utah Code § 31A-22-307). Our PIP guide explains the rest.

An emergency visit at Timpanogos Regional Hospital in Orem can go past that figure. Utah Code § 31A-22-309 lets you pursue general damages against the careless driver only with one of these:

  • Over $3,000 of medical costs
  • Any bone fracture
  • Objectively documented permanent impairment or disability
  • Lasting disfigurement
  • Dismemberment of any kind
  • A fatal injury

Clear one and the at-fault driver's insurer owes your full damages, and your UIM coverage can add to a low policy.

Fault Disputes on New Roads

Under Utah Code § 78B-5-818 you collect nothing unless the defendants' share of fault is larger than yours, and your share is subtracted from what you receive.

Expect arguments that you misread a new signal, cut across a shifted lane or stepped out at the station without looking. Photos of that day's striping and signs, dashcam video and witness contacts are the answer, since work zones change within days.

Filing deadlines

Plan on four years for most injury suits, two for wrongful death, and one year for a notice of claim against Vineyard, Utah County, UDOT or UTA (Utah Code § 63G-7-402). See our deadline overview.

Vineyard Car Crash Cases We Handle

Connector and Geneva Road crashes

Rear-end, angle and lane-change collisions on the city's two main arterials.

Station-area crashes

Vehicles, walkers and cyclists colliding near the FrontRunner station and the Main Street intersection during commute peaks.

Work-zone crashes

Collisions caused by confusing detours, missing signs or equipment in the road, which can bring in a contractor or public agency.

Truck and delivery collisions

Construction trucks and delivery vans moving through new neighborhoods; see our truck crash guide.

No insurance, or a driver who left

When the other driver is uninsured or flees, your UM coverage may pay. If that vehicle never struck you, Utah Code § 31A-22-305(6) requires clear and convincing proof beyond your own statement.

After a Crash in Vineyard

  • Call 911; a sheriff's deputy from the Vineyard Division will usually respond. Write down the case number.
  • Get seen today. Timpanogos Regional Hospital in Orem is a Level III trauma center, and Utah Valley Hospital in Provo is a Level II center.
  • Photograph cones, temporary lines, signal heads and signs as well as the cars.
  • Take contact details from witnesses; commuters on the way to a train disappear fast.
  • Open PIP with your insurer and decline a recorded statement to the other side. More on handling the insurance claim.

Vineyard lawsuits are filed in the Fourth Judicial District Court at 137 North Freedom Boulevard in Provo. Most cases resolve without a trial, but we get each one ready for court from the start. Also see our Orem car accident page, or call (801) 921-5134. Free consultation. No attorney fees unless we win. Hablamos Español.
