Riverton Rideshare Accident Lawyer
Hurt in an Uber or Lyft in Riverton? The driver's app status decides which policy pays, and our legal team works to establish it. Free consultation, no attorney fees unless we win. Hablamos Español.
Riverton has no TRAX or FrontRunner stop of its own, so rideshare fills the gap. Residents call cars to reach the Red Line in neighboring Daybreak, to get to and from Intermountain Riverton Hospital at 3741 West 12600 South, and for the long run to Salt Lake City International Airport. Most of those trips begin on neighborhood streets and join Bangerter Highway, Mountain View Corridor or Redwood Road within minutes.
Those highways are where Riverton rideshare crashes turn serious. UDOT's rebuilt 13400 South interchange on Bangerter reopened in September 2025, and Mountain View Corridor still has signals where cross streets meet it. Before anyone argues about who ran the light, the claim has to establish what the driver's app showed at the moment of impact.
Which Insurance Applies to a Riverton Rideshare Crash
Utah Code § 13-51-108 sets the minimum coverage by app status:
- App closed. The driver is an ordinary motorist, and the personal auto policy responds, subject to any rideshare exclusion that policy contains (§ 13-51-108(11)).
- App open, waiting for a request. Required liability is $50,000 per person and $100,000 per occurrence for injuries, with $30,000 for property damage.
- Request accepted, through drop-off. The minimum rises to $1,000,000 per occurrence, and the policy must include PIP and uninsured and underinsured motorist coverage where Utah law requires it. If the driver's own rideshare policy has lapsed, the company must provide the coverage from the first dollar of the claim (§ 13-51-108(9)).
On a trip from a Riverton cul-de-sac to the Daybreak Parkway station, a driver may accept, pick up and drop off within a quarter hour. We ask the company for the acceptance and drop-off time stamps and the GPS route, so the period is proved by data. Our rideshare insurance guide goes deeper.
Riverton Rideshare Claimants
You may be able to claim if you were:
- A rider headed to the Red Line, the hospital or the airport.
- In another vehicle on Bangerter, Mountain View Corridor or 12600 South when a rideshare car hit you.
- Walking or biking on a residential street or near a school when a rideshare driver struck you.
- The driver, hurt by someone else's negligence while logged in.
The policies available differ by role. If your crash didn't involve Uber or Lyft, our Riverton car accident lawyer page covers ordinary collisions.
Utah Law in a Riverton Rideshare Case
PIP benefits cover early medical bills and part of lost income regardless of fault (§ 31A-22-307; Utah no-fault explained). Under § 78B-5-818 your award drops by your percentage of fault, and you recover only if the defendants' combined fault exceeds yours. Four years is the usual injury deadline, but a claim against UDOT, Salt Lake County or Riverton City requires notice within one year (§ 63G-7-402). All Utah deadlines.
Local Factors in Riverton
The Riverton Police Department takes crashes on city streets, and the Highway Patrol usually handles the state highways. Intermountain Riverton Hospital can evaluate and stabilize injuries, and the most serious cases go on to Intermountain Medical Center in Murray, a Level I trauma center. A lawsuit would be filed in Third District Court for Salt Lake County, at the Matheson Courthouse downtown or the West Jordan courthouse at 8080 South Redwood Road. Our Draper office is a short drive east. See our Riverton personal injury page for other kinds of injuries.

Uber and Lyft Crash Questions in Riverton
What if the rideshare driver's own policy has lapsed?
Utah requires the rideshare company to step in. Under § 13-51-108(9), if the coverage the driver was supposed to carry lapses, the company must provide it beginning with the first dollar of the claim.
My driver was taking me to the Daybreak Parkway TRAX station when another car ran a light on Bangerter. Who pays?
The driver who ran the light, and that driver's insurer, are responsible first. If that policy is too small, the uninsured and underinsured motorist coverage required during your ride may add to it.
A rideshare driver who was logged in between trips hit me on Mountain View Corridor. Is there coverage?
Yes. That is the waiting period, and Utah requires at least $50,000 per person, $100,000 per occurrence and $30,000 for property damage. Your own underinsured motorist coverage may add to it if your losses exceed those limits.
What will a Riverton rideshare accident lawyer cost me?
The first consultation is free, and we work on contingency. You pay nothing up front, and no attorney fees unless we win.
How soon do I need to act?
Four years for most injury claims and two for wrongful death. A claim against a public entity needs a notice of claim within one year.
What should I screenshot?
The trip in progress or the receipt, the driver's profile and plate, any messages, and the map showing the route. Add scene photos, witness contacts and the police case number.
