West Jordan Rideshare Accident Lawyer
Hurt in an Uber or Lyft in West Jordan? Coverage depends on the driver's app status when the crash happened, and our legal team works to establish it. Free consultation, no attorney fees unless we win. Hablamos Español.
West Jordan rideshare trips are often short hops across a spread-out city: from a neighborhood off Mountain View Corridor to a TRAX Red Line stop such as West Jordan City Center at 8021 South Redwood Road or Jordan Valley at 3400 West 8600 South, from dinner at Jordan Landing back home, or a late ride when driving yourself isn't an option. Short trips here still run on fast roads. After a collision, the insurance period has to be settled before the argument over fault.
Utah's rideshare coverage rules range from $50,000 per person to $1,000,000 per occurrence, depending on the driver's app status. Whether you were the passenger, a driver the rideshare car hit on Bangerter Highway, someone walking to a TRAX platform, or a West Jordan resident driving for Uber or Lyft, we find which layer was active and build the claim from there.
Matching the Crash to the Right App Period
Under Utah Code § 13-51-108, required insurance tracks the driver's status in the app. In a West Jordan case:
- Signed out. Rideshare coverage is not triggered, and the driver's personal auto policy responds. Because Utah permits personal policies to exclude rideshare use (§ 13-51-108(11)), a gap between the two can open when the driver's status is unclear.
- Signed in, awaiting a request. The statute's waiting period requires liability coverage of $50,000 per person, $100,000 total per occurrence, and $30,000 in property damage.
- Request accepted until drop-off. A prearranged ride begins with acceptance and ends when the passenger exits. For that entire span Utah requires at least $1,000,000 per occurrence in liability coverage, plus PIP and uninsured and underinsured motorist coverage as the law requires.
On Bangerter or Mountain View Corridor, a driver can cover a lot of ground in the seconds after tapping to accept. We ask for the acceptance time stamp, the trip record and the GPS track instead of relying on the insurer's summary. Our rideshare insurance guide explains the stages further.
Who Can File a Rideshare Claim in West Jordan
You may have a claim in any of these roles:
- Passengers headed to TRAX, Jordan Landing, or home from work.
- Drivers and passengers in other cars struck by an Uber or Lyft driver.
- Pedestrians and cyclists crossing Redwood Road or walking to a Red Line station.
- Rideshare drivers hit by an at-fault motorist while logged in.
Different roles can open different policies. If your crash didn't involve a rideshare car, our West Jordan car accident lawyer page covers it.
Utah Rules for a West Jordan Rideshare Claim
PIP covers initial medical costs and part of lost wages regardless of fault (§ 31A-22-307; no-fault overview). Under § 78B-5-818 you can recover only if the combined fault of those you sue exceeds yours. Most suits must be filed within four years, but claims involving a TRAX train, a UTA bus or a West Jordan City vehicle require a notice of claim within one year (§ 63G-7-402). Details are on our Utah deadlines page.
West Jordan Factors in a Rideshare Case
West Jordan Police take crashes inside the city, including on Bangerter, Redwood Road and Mountain View Corridor, and the Utah Highway Patrol may handle some highway incidents. Salt Lake County lawsuits are filed in the Third Judicial District Court, which has a courthouse at 8080 South Redwood Road in West Jordan as well as the Matheson Courthouse in Salt Lake City. Our office in Draper is a short drive down Bangerter. For other local injuries, see our West Jordan personal injury page.

West Jordan Uber and Lyft Crash Questions
An Uber hit me on Mountain View Corridor while I was driving. Can I claim against Uber's coverage?
If the driver was logged in, yes: the waiting-period coverage or the $1,000,000 ride coverage applies, depending on whether a request had been accepted. If the driver was offline, the claim runs against the personal policy, and your own underinsured motorist coverage may help.
The other driver fled after hitting my Lyft. Who pays?
The uninsured motorist coverage carried during the ride may respond, along with your own UM coverage. If the fleeing car never touched your vehicle, Utah requires clear and convincing proof beyond your own testimony that it existed, so witnesses and video matter.
Can I bring a claim if I was the rideshare driver?
Yes. If another motorist caused the crash, that driver's liability policy is primarily responsible, and the uninsured and underinsured motorist coverage required while you were logged in may add to it.
What does a West Jordan rideshare accident lawyer cost?
A free consultation, then a contingency fee. You pay nothing up front, and no attorney fees unless we win.
When do I have to file?
Four years for most Utah injury claims, two for wrongful death, and one year to file notice if a TRAX train, UTA bus or city vehicle was involved.
What should I save from the ride?
The trip screen, the receipt, the driver's name and plate, and any chat messages, along with photos of the scene and the responding agency's case number.
