American Fork Rideshare Accident Lawyer
Injured in an Uber or Lyft in American Fork? The policy that pays turns on what the driver's app showed at the moment of impact, and our legal team works to pin that down. Free consultation, no attorney fees unless we win. Hablamos Español.
A typical American Fork ride is a commuter leg or an evening out: a pickup at the American Fork FrontRunner station, a run across the Main Street and Pioneer Crossing diverging diamond onto I-15, a trip home from an event at Thanksgiving Point next door in Lehi, or a lift from the State Street shops after dark. Some riders head the other way, up SR-92 toward the canyon trailheads. Each of those roads carries its own crash pattern, and every one of them raises the same first question after a collision: which insurance period was the driver in?
The answer can separate a $50,000 limit from a $1,000,000 one. Whether you were riding in back, driving the car the rideshare vehicle hit on State Street, crossing on foot near the station, or logged in yourself and picking up fares around Utah County, the claim starts with the app record, not with the adjuster's version of it.
Which Rideshare Policy Covers an American Fork Crash
Utah Code § 13-51-108 ties the required insurance to three app states:
- Offline. No rideshare policy is triggered, and the driver's own auto insurer responds. Utah allows personal policies to exclude rideshare use (§ 13-51-108(11)), so a driver who was actually working can leave a hole between the two insurers if nobody nails down the timing.
- Online, no ride accepted. This is the statute's waiting period. Required liability limits are $50,000 for one person, $100,000 for everyone hurt, and $30,000 for property damage.
- Ride accepted through drop-off. Utah defines a prearranged ride as starting when the driver accepts the request and ending when the passenger gets out (§ 13-51-102). Throughout that span the law requires at least $1,000,000 per occurrence in liability coverage, along with PIP, uninsured and underinsured motorist coverage where the Insurance Code calls for them.
A driver heading south on I-15 from the Lehi interchange can accept a request and reach the Main Street exit within a minute or two, so the gap between the waiting-period limit and the full ride limit can come down to a handful of seconds. We ask the company for the acceptance timestamp, trip log and GPS trace rather than taking a claims summary on faith. Our guide to Utah rideshare insurance goes through each stage.
Who Can Bring an American Fork Rideshare Claim
People hurt in these crashes usually fall into one of four groups:
- Riders on their way to or from FrontRunner, Thanksgiving Point, or a night out on State Street.
- Motorists and their passengers hit by an Uber or Lyft at the diverging diamond or on Pioneer Crossing.
- People on foot or on bikes crossing Main Street or riding near the station when a rideshare car turned into them.
- Uber and Lyft drivers struck by someone else while logged in.
Your role decides which policies open up, and more than one can apply. If no rideshare vehicle was involved, our American Fork car accident lawyer page is the better starting point.
Utah Rules That Shape the Claim
Your PIP coverage pays early medical bills and part of lost income regardless of fault (§ 31A-22-307; see our no-fault explainer). Under § 78B-5-818 you recover only if the fault of those you sue is greater than your own. Most lawsuits have a four-year window, but a crash involving a FrontRunner train, UTA bus, or city or state vehicle calls for a notice of claim within one year (§ 63G-7-402); our Utah filing deadlines page explains both.
Local Details in an American Fork Rideshare Case
American Fork City Police write reports for crashes on city streets, while the Utah Highway Patrol usually handles I-15 and SR-92 up the canyon and the Utah County Sheriff covers unincorporated areas; getting the right agency's report early saves weeks. Intermountain American Fork Hospital at 170 North 1100 East has a 24-hour emergency department and is a Level III trauma center, with the most serious injuries moved to a higher-level center. If a case is filed, it goes to the Fourth District Court, which sits in Provo and at its American Fork courthouse at 75 East 80 North. Other injuries in town are covered on our American Fork personal injury page.

Uber and Lyft Crash Questions in American Fork
My Lyft was rear-ended in traffic near the Main Street interchange. Whose insurance handles it?
The driver who hit you is the first target, through that driver's liability policy. Because you were on an active trip, the rideshare coverage required during a prearranged ride, including its uninsured and underinsured motorist coverage, can respond if the other driver has no insurance or too little.
I was in my own car when an Uber turned in front of me on State Street. Can I use Uber's coverage?
Only if the driver was logged in. If a ride had been accepted, the $1,000,000 layer applies; if the driver was online but waiting, the $50,000 per person layer applies; if the driver was offline, the claim goes against the driver's personal policy.
I drive for Uber around Utah County and another driver hit me. What can I claim?
Start with the at-fault driver's liability insurance. If you were logged in, the uninsured and underinsured motorist coverage required for rideshare driving may also help, along with your own PIP.
How much does an American Fork rideshare accident lawyer charge?
Consultations are free and cases are handled on contingency. You pay nothing up front, and no attorney fees unless we win.
How long do I have to act after a rideshare crash in American Fork?
Four years for most Utah injury lawsuits and two for wrongful death. If a UTA train or bus, or a government vehicle, was involved, a notice of claim is due within one year.
What should I save after a rideshare crash?
Screenshots of the trip in the app, the receipt, the driver's name and plate, the police case number, and photos of the cars and the intersection before anything is moved.
