Saratoga Springs Rideshare Accident Lawyer
Hurt in an Uber or Lyft in Saratoga Springs, or hit by a driver working for one? The coverage available depends on what the driver's app showed at the moment of the crash. Free consultation. You pay nothing up front, and no attorney fees unless we win. Hablamos Español.
Saratoga Springs has no FrontRunner or TRAX station, and most trips out of the city use Redwood Road, Pioneer Crossing, SR-73 or the Mountain View Corridor. That makes app-based rides part of daily life here: a lift to the Lehi FrontRunner station, a ride home from the shops at The Crossing, a trip to an emergency room in Lehi or American Fork, or an early run to the airport. Since August 17, 2026, UTA On Demand has also served portions of the city as part of a North Utah County zone whose destinations include the Lehi and American Fork FrontRunner stations.
From the curb, those services look alike. In a claim they are not. An Uber or Lyft driver is covered by insurance that Utah ties to the app's status. UTA On Demand is public transit, which can bring a government entity and its one-year notice of claim (Utah Code § 63G-7-402) into the picture, along with any contractor that operates the vehicles. Pinning down which kind of ride you were in comes first.
How Utah Matches Coverage to the App
Utah's transportation network company statute, § 13-51-108, sets minimum coverage according to what the driver was doing:
- Not logged in. Only the driver's personal auto policy is in play, and Utah allows personal insurers to exclude losses that arise while a car is used for rideshare services (§ 13-51-108(11)). That is why the app's status at impact gets contested.
- Logged in, waiting for a request. The statute calls this a waiting period (§ 13-51-102) and requires primary liability coverage of at least $50,000 per person, $100,000 per occurrence and $30,000 for property damage, plus PIP and uninsured and underinsured motorist coverage where Utah law requires them.
- Ride accepted, through drop-off. A prearranged ride begins when the driver accepts the request and ends when the passenger gets out (§ 13-51-102). During it, primary liability coverage must be at least $1,000,000 per occurrence, again with PIP and UM/UIM coverage as required.
Two more provisions protect riders. If a driver's own rideshare coverage lapses, the company must provide compliant coverage from the first dollar of the claim (§ 13-51-108(9)), and a rideshare policy may not make payment depend on the driver's personal insurer denying the claim first (§ 13-51-108(10)). We request the trip log, acceptance time and GPS trace rather than taking anyone's word for the app status. Our Utah rideshare insurance guide goes period by period.
People Who Can Make a Claim
A rideshare crash in Saratoga Springs can injure people in several positions:
- Passengers picked up at home, at the shops on Redwood Road or at the Lehi FrontRunner station.
- Other drivers on Redwood Road, Pioneer Crossing or Pony Express Parkway struck by a rideshare car.
- Pedestrians and cyclists hit by a driver watching the app instead of the crosswalk.
- Rideshare drivers injured by someone else while logged in.
Your role in the crash and the driver's status in the app together decide which policies you can reach. For a crash with no rideshare car involved, see our Saratoga Springs car accident lawyer page; if you were on foot, our Saratoga Springs pedestrian accident page.
Utah Rules That Shape the Claim
Your own PIP pays first regardless of fault: at least $3,000 in medical expenses, plus lost income at 85% up to $250 a week for up to 52 weeks (§ 31A-22-307; how no-fault works). To claim pain and suffering from the at-fault driver, the injury must meet a § 31A-22-309 threshold, such as a fracture or medical expenses over $3,000. Fault is divided under § 78B-5-818, and you recover only if the defendants' combined fault exceeds yours. Most suits must be filed within four years (§ 78B-2-307), but a claim against UTA, UDOT or the city needs written notice within one year. Our deadline guide has the details.
Saratoga Springs Facts That Matter
Saratoga Springs Police, in the Public Safety Building at 367 South Saratoga Road, handle most crashes on city streets, and the Utah Highway Patrol often takes the state routes. Saratoga Springs Fire & Rescue provides advanced life support ambulance transport from stations at 995 West 1200 North and 2021 South Ring Road, and Holy Cross Hospital – Mountain Point at 3000 North Triumph Boulevard in Lehi is a Level III trauma center on the Utah Bureau of EMS list. UDOT's records show 4,307 crashes on city streets from January 2018 through August 4, 2025, and rear-end collisions made up 46.9% of them, the highest share among the 57 cities in that data with at least 500 street crashes. What You Can Recover
- Financial losses: ambulance, emergency and follow-up bills, lost wages, and any lasting cut in earning capacity.
- General damages: pain, poor sleep, anxiety about riding in cars, and missed activities.
- Future care: surgery, therapy and in-home help for injuries that linger. Our article on Uber passenger settlement amounts explains what drives value.
- Death claims: when a rideshare crash is fatal, the heirs may bring a wrongful death action, generally within two years; see our wrongful death guide.

Rideshare Crash Questions From Saratoga Springs Riders
My Uber crashed on Pioneer Crossing on the way to the Lehi FrontRunner station. Whose insurance applies?
You were on an accepted trip, so the rideshare policy's $1,000,000 liability layer applies, along with required PIP and UM/UIM coverage. If another driver caused the crash, that driver's insurer is responsible too.
Is a UTA On Demand ride treated like an Uber?
Not necessarily. UTA On Demand is a public transit service, so a claim may run against a government entity and require a written notice of claim within one year under Utah Code § 63G-7-402. The rideshare tiers in § 13-51-108 were written for companies like Uber and Lyft, so coverage on a transit vehicle has to be confirmed separately.
The driver says the app was off. How is that checked?
The companies' own records answer it: login times, the moment a request was accepted, and the GPS trail. We send a preservation request early and match those records against your receipt and in-app messages.
How do your fees work?
The consultation is free. You pay nothing up front, and no attorney fees unless we win.
How long do I have to file?
Usually four years for an injury lawsuit and two years for wrongful death. If UTA, UDOT, Utah County or Saratoga Springs may be responsible, written notice is due within one year.
What should I save after the crash?
A screenshot of the trip before it leaves your app history, the driver's name and plate, photos of both cars and the road, witness phone numbers, the police case number, and every medical record from that day forward.
