Utah DOT Crash Data
Bountiful's Most Dangerous Intersections for Pedestrians and Cyclists
In Bountiful, pedestrian crashes at traffic signals follow the bus stops. From January 1, 2018 through August 4, 2025, UDOT's records place 21 pedestrian and 10 bicycle crashes within 250 feet of the city's 18 modeled signals, and 18 of the 21 pedestrian crashes happened at signals where UDOT's model lists at least one bus stop nearby.
Here is how the numbers were made. UDOT's pedestrian and bicycle safety model covers 18 signalized intersections in Bountiful. Each crash in UDOT's records from January 1, 2018 to August 4, 2025 that involved someone walking or riding a bike was attached to the nearest signal in the model, as long as it was within 250 feet, the radius the Highway Safety Manual uses for intersection crashes. Serious or fatal means UDOT recorded the crash as Fatal or Suspected Serious Injury.
Bountiful's count is 21 pedestrian crashes and 10 bicycle crashes. One crash involved both a pedestrian and a bicyclist, so the total is 30 separate crashes, not 31. Three pedestrian crashes were serious or fatal, 14.3%; none of the bicycle crashes was. Sixteen of the 18 signals recorded at least one crash, and two recorded none.
Crossings With Bus Stops
UDOT's model counts the bus stops near each signal, and in Bountiful 14 of the 18 signals have at least one. Those 14 hold 18 of the city's 21 pedestrian crashes. The pattern is sharper at the busiest stops: the six signals with three or four bus stops nearby account for 11 pedestrian crashes, just over half, while making up a third of the city's signals. Across the 1,209 signals in the 52 Utah cities we have counted the same way, signals with three or more nearby bus stops hold 18.7% of pedestrian crashes.
None of this shows that bus stops cause crashes. A bus stop marks a place where people on foot wait, arrive and cross, so it is a measure of exposure. It does suggest where to look first after a pedestrian crash in Bountiful: the signal's crosswalk timing, where the stop sits, and whether the person was walking to or from a bus.
Ten Bountiful Signals With the Most Crashes
Signals are ranked by pedestrian and bicycle crashes together, January 2018 through August 4, 2025. When two are tied, the one with more serious or fatal crashes goes first, then the one with more pedestrian crashes, then the one with more bus stops nearby. Walker, vehicle and bus-stop figures are UDOT model estimates.
- 500 South (SR-68) & 200 West (SR-68) — 4 pedestrian crashes and 2 bicycle crashes, none serious or fatal. Bountiful's highest pedestrian count, and no signal had more bicycle crashes either. UDOT's model lists four bus stops nearby.
- 2600 South & 500 West — 3 pedestrian crashes, none serious or fatal, and no bicycle crashes. Four bus stops are listed nearby, and the busier road carries about 20,000 vehicles a day.
- 500 South (SR-68) & 500 West (US-89) — 3 pedestrian crashes and no bicycle crashes, none serious or fatal. Its busier road, at about 25,000 vehicles a day, is the heaviest in the city's set, and its estimated foot traffic, about 244 people a day, ties for the highest.
- 400 North (SR-106) & 200 West — 2 pedestrian crashes and 1 bicycle crash, none serious or fatal. UDOT's model estimates about 178 people on foot here daily.
- 400 North (SR-106) & 500 West (US-89) — 1 pedestrian crash and 2 bicycle crashes, none serious or fatal. It is one of four Bountiful signals with no bus stop listed nearby.
- 1500 South & 500 West (US-89) — 1 pedestrian crash, serious or fatal, and 1 bicycle crash. Estimated foot traffic is about 183 people a day, with two bus stops nearby.
- Pages Lane & 200 West — 2 bicycle crashes and no pedestrian crashes, none serious or fatal. At about 18 a day, its rider estimate is the highest of any Bountiful signal.
- 2600 South / Orchard Drive & 200 West / Orchard Drive — 1 pedestrian crash, serious or fatal, and no bicycle crashes. UDOT's model lists two schools and three bus stops nearby.
- 400 North (SR-106) & Main Street (SR-106) — 1 pedestrian crash, serious or fatal. The model estimates about 244 people on foot here a day, tied for the city's highest, and lists a school nearby but no bus stop.
- 500 South & Main Street — 1 pedestrian crash, not serious or fatal. Four other signals also had a single pedestrian crash and nothing else; this one ranks ahead on bus stops, with four listed nearby.
Bus stops run through the list. Seven of the ten signals have at least one nearby, and the top two have four each. The serious or fatal pedestrian crashes, though, did not come at the top of the list: each of the three was the only pedestrian crash at its signal, at 1500 South and 500 West, at 2600 South and 200 West, and at 400 North and Main Street. With counts this small, a single crash can reorder the list.
Bountiful's Bicycle Crashes
Ten bicycle crashes were spread across seven signals, and no signal had more than 2. Three signals tie at that number: 500 South and 200 West, 400 North and 500 West, and Pages Lane and 200 West. Every other signal with a bicycle crash had one. None of the ten was serious or fatal. Bicycle crashes also show less of a bus-stop pattern than pedestrian crashes: four of the ten were at signals with no bus stop listed.
What the Model's Estimates Show
The bus-stop figures come from the same UDOT model that supplies this page's estimates of daily pedestrians, riders and vehicles, nearby schools, and lighting. They describe how much activity surrounds a signal. The model's predicted crash numbers are a different matter: they were produced on their own, for no stated period, and we do not line them up against crashes recorded from 2018 to 2025.
Estimated foot traffic and recorded crashes line up only in part. The two signals with the highest walker estimates, about 244 a day each, are 500 South at 500 West, with 3 pedestrian crashes, and 400 North at Main Street, with 1 that was serious or fatal. 3100 South at Orchard Drive, estimated at about 194 a day, recorded none. Three signals have no walker estimate in UDOT's model, including 500 South at 400 East, which still had a pedestrian crash.
Late Afternoons and Cold Months in Bountiful
The hours from 3 to 7 p.m. carry Bountiful's heaviest load: 8 of the 21 pedestrian crashes and 6 of the 10 bicycle crashes. The three serious or fatal pedestrian crashes each fell in a different part of the day, one between 6 and 9 a.m., one between 3 and 7 p.m. and one between 7 p.m. and midnight. Darkness played a smaller part than it does statewide: 5 of the 21 pedestrian crashes happened after dark, against 718 of 2,105 across all modeled signals.
The calendar shows two different seasons. In the complete years 2018 through 2024, November, December and January produced 8 of 19 pedestrian crashes, while September through December produced 7 of 8 bicycle crashes. These are small counts, so read them as where the record fell rather than as a seasonal rule.
Riders Left at the Scene
Three of Bountiful's 10 bicycle crashes were coded hit and run, about three times the statewide share for bicycle crashes (112 of 1,115). Three pedestrian crashes carried the same code. Older drivers were noted in 3 pedestrian crashes, one of them serious or fatal, and teen drivers in 2. No Bountiful crash in this set was flagged for DUI, speeding or disregarding a signal or sign, and only one, a pedestrian crash, for distraction.
Coverage depends on who stayed. When the driver is identified, personal injury protection can come from the policy on the car that hit you, even if no one in your household has auto insurance, because Utah extends PIP to a pedestrian injured in Utah in an accident involving the insured vehicle (Utah Code § 31A-22-308(3)(b)). When the driver leaves and is never found, recovery shifts to your own household's coverage: PIP for a named insured or resident relative hurt in an accident involving any motor vehicle (§ 31A-22-308(1)-(2)), and uninsured-motorist coverage, which treats the departed driver's vehicle as uninsured (§ 31A-22-305(2)(b)).
Sidewalk Gaps on SR-68
No Bountiful signal with a recorded crash sits on a road posted above 40 mph. The top signal, 500 South at 200 West, where both streets carry SR-68, is posted at 35 in UDOT's 2026 state-route speed data, as is 400 North (SR-106) at its signals; 500 West (US-89) is listed at 40. The 4 signals that top out at 35 recorded 5 pedestrian crashes, one serious or fatal, and the 13 that top out at 40 recorded 16, two serious or fatal. The only signal listed higher, a pedestrian beacon on US-89 at 800 West, at 45, recorded none.
UDOT's sidewalk inventory, which covers state routes only, flags absent or discontinuous sidewalk within about 150 meters of three Bountiful signals, all on SR-68: 500 South at 200 West, 1500 South at 300 West and 1875 South at 400 West. Those three account for 6 of the city's 21 pedestrian crashes, including the top of the list. Posted limits are current figures and may not match the limit on the day of a crash, and statewide the serious-or-fatal share does not rise steadily with the posted limit.
What This Count Misses
These are crashes within 250 feet of a signal, nothing more. A person hit at a mid-block crossing, at a corner with only a stop sign, in a parking lot or on a residential street is not here. The figures count crashes rather than people, so a crash that hurt two people appears once. Bus-stop numbers are model estimates of what is nearby, not a record of whether the person was riding transit. And recorded crashes say nothing about fault.
After a Crash at a Bountiful Signal
Evidence about the crossing itself can matter as much as evidence about the driver. Earlier crashes at the same signal speak to whether the danger was known, and the city and UDOT keep records on signal timing, crosswalk markings and lighting that can be requested. If a UTA bus or a government vehicle was involved, special notice rules apply. Our Bountiful pedestrian accident and bicycle accident pages explain local claims, and our guides cover how fault is proven, PIP claims and Utah's deadlines. Damages in a Pedestrian or Bicycle Claim
- Out-of-pocket losses: emergency care, follow-up visits, therapy, prescriptions, missed work and a reduced ability to earn.
- Human losses: pain, anxiety about crossing a street or getting back on a bike, and the routines the injury interrupted.
- Future needs: care that continues after the claim, from additional surgery to long-term therapy and help at home.
About the Data
The crash data are UDOT's records for January 1, 2018 through August 4, 2025, limited to crashes involving a pedestrian or bicyclist and matched to the closest signal in UDOT's pedestrian and bicycle safety model within 250 feet, the Highway Safety Manual standard. Severity follows UDOT's coding, with Fatal and Suspected Serious Injury grouped as serious or fatal. Bus stops, schools, lighting and daily walker, rider and vehicle estimates are taken from the same model. City comparisons use 1,209 signals in 52 Utah cities; statewide shares use all 1,263. Crash times, months (complete years 2018 through 2024), lighting and report flags are drawn from the same UDOT records; posted limits from UDOT's 2026 state-route speed layer and UGRC's Utah Roads, and sidewalk gaps from UDOT's state-route sidewalk inventory. Every city we have counted this way is listed on our statewide page, Utah’s most dangerous intersections.

Bountiful Crossing Questions
Which Bountiful intersection has the most crashes involving pedestrians or cyclists?
500 South at 200 West, with 4 pedestrian crashes and 2 bicycle crashes from January 2018 through August 4, 2025, none of them serious or fatal. Two signals follow with 3 pedestrian crashes each: 2600 South at 500 West, and 500 South at 500 West.
Can a history of crashes at the intersection be used in my claim?
Often, yes. Prior collisions at the same signal can show the risk was known to whoever controls the crossing, and they can support questions about its timing or layout. They do not establish fault for your crash, which still turns on what happened that day.
Are people walking to a bus at greater risk?
The records don't say whether a pedestrian was headed to a bus. What they show is location: 18 of Bountiful's 21 pedestrian crashes were at signals with at least one bus stop nearby, and 11 were at the six signals with three or more. That makes the crossings around bus stops the place to start when reconstructing a crash.
Why are some crashes near Bountiful not counted?
Only crashes within 250 feet of a signal in UDOT's model are matched, each to its nearest signal. Crashes farther from every signal, including most on residential streets, are outside the count.
What time period does this cover?
January 1, 2018 through August 4, 2025. That is the last date in the UDOT crash records available when these counts were made; later crashes are not included.
