Utah DOT Crash Data

Orem's Most Dangerous Roads

One street dominates Orem's crash record. State Street (US-89) had 2,170 of the 10,201 crashes on the city's streets from January 1, 2018 through August 4, 2025, 55 of the 209 serious or fatal crashes, and 7 of the 21 deaths, a third of all street deaths in the city.

This page ranks Orem's streets by the crashes UDOT recorded on them. Each crash inside city limits from January 1, 2018 through August 4, 2025 was assigned to the street where it occurred, using the state's road map and the road the officer named in the report. Crashes on I-15 and interchange ramps, in private lots, and those that could not be placed on a street are kept apart. A crash is serious or fatal when the report lists a death or a suspected serious injury.

UDOT's records show 13,267 crashes inside Orem. I-15 and its ramps account for 2,836, private lots for 147, and 83 could not be placed on a street; the remaining 10,201 are on Orem's streets. Of those, 209 were serious or fatal and 21 people died in 20 fatal crashes. The serious share, 2.0%, is below the 2.6% across the seven counties in this data (Salt Lake, Utah, Davis, Weber, Summit, Cache and Washington), and an injury of any kind, including a possible injury, was reported in 27.9% of street crashes against 32.1%.

State Street Carries Orem's Heaviest Toll

State Street holds 21.3% of Orem's street crashes but 26.3% of the serious or fatal ones and 33.3% of the deaths. UDOT estimates put as many as 56,000 vehicles a day on it, and its busiest junction, 800 South, had 161 crashes. 594 of its crashes, 27.4%, happened away from any intersection.

Motorcycles stand out on State Street: they were involved in 52 of its crashes and 18 of its 55 serious or fatal ones. Officers also flagged speed in 14 of those serious crashes. No other Orem street comes close to State Street's count of serious crashes; 800 North, in second place, had 26.

Orem Streets With the Most Reported Crashes

The list ranks streets by crashes recorded inside city limits from January 2018 through August 4, 2025. A crash where two listed streets meet is counted once, on the street the officer's report names. Each entry gives the junctions with the most crashes on that street.

  • State Street (US-89) — 2,170 crashes, 55 serious or fatal, 7 deaths. 800 South (161), 800 North (128) and University Parkway (125) are its busiest junctions.
  • Center Street — 1,172 crashes, 17 serious or fatal, 1 death. Its Wolverine Way junction had 185 crashes, the most at any junction on Orem's fifteen busiest streets, yet only 1.45% of the street's crashes were serious.
  • University Parkway (1300 South, SR-265) — 1,146 crashes, 19 serious or fatal, 2 deaths. Rear-end crashes were 61.5%, the highest share of these ten, on a road UDOT estimates at up to 58,000 vehicles a day.
  • 800 North (SR-52) — 840 crashes, 26 serious or fatal, 1 death. Its 980 West junction had 91 crashes and 4 serious ones, and Wolverine Way (85) is close behind.
  • Geneva Road (SR-114) — 489 crashes, 19 serious or fatal, 2 deaths. Side impacts made up 44.4%, and 400 North (73) is its busiest junction.
  • 1600 North — 391 crashes, 7 serious or fatal, 1 death. Officers flagged distraction in 17.1% of them, the highest share of these ten, and 52.9% were rear-end crashes.
  • Wolverine Way (1200 West) — 366 crashes, 5 serious or fatal, no deaths. 90 of them came at 800 North, none of those serious.
  • 800 South — 295 crashes, 2 serious or fatal, no deaths, the lowest serious share of these ten. More than half (52.2%) were side impacts, and State Street (40) is its busiest junction.
  • Orem Boulevard — 291 crashes, 6 serious or fatal, no deaths. Side impacts were 58.8% and a driver disregarding a signal or sign was flagged in 17.9%, both the highest shares here.
  • 800 East — 266 crashes, 7 serious or fatal, no deaths. An older driver was flagged in 22.2% of its crashes, the most of these ten, and 800 North (37) leads its junctions.

These ten streets account for 7,426 of Orem's 10,201 street crashes (72.8%), 163 of the 209 serious or fatal crashes (78.0%) and 14 of the 21 deaths. In a city of 336 streets with at least one recorded crash, a short list of state routes and main arterials carries most of the harm.

Sorting by Serious Injury Changes the Order

Put the streets in order of serious or fatal crashes and 800 North (SR-52) rises from fourth to second with 26. Geneva Road climbs from fifth into a tie for third with University Parkway at 19, and its 3.89% serious share is the highest among Orem's fifteen busiest streets. Center Street, second by total crashes, falls to fifth with 17. Main Street, 11th by crashes, joins the list with 5, and 800 South drops off.

Motorcycles, Red Lights and Rare Hit-and-Runs

Side impacts (37.8%) and rear-end crashes (36.3%) make up most of Orem's street crashes. Side impacts carry far more of the harm, 46.4% of the serious or fatal crashes against 9.1% for rear-end collisions. Motorcyclists were in 1.8% of crashes but 25.4% of serious ones (21.7% across the seven counties), cyclists in 1.5% and 9.1% (5.4%), and pedestrians in 2.0% and 12.4%. Crashes in the group UDOT reports as single-vehicle or not applicable are 8.3% of Orem's street crashes, about half the 17.6% seen across the seven counties.

Officers recorded a driver disregarding a signal or sign in 10.5% of crashes (7.8% across the seven counties) and a teen driver in 25.5% (23.8%). A driver leaving the scene was rarer than elsewhere, 3.3% against 8.6%. Crashes peak in the 5 p.m. hour, Sunday had 566 crashes to Friday's 1,749, and 19.6% happened after dark, below the 23.7% across the seven counties.

I-15 Through Orem

I-15 and its ramps account for 2,836 crashes in Orem, 21.4% of the city's total. I-15 itself had 2,783, with 57 serious or fatal and 7 deaths. In Salt Lake City and Sandy, interstate crashes were much less often serious than street crashes; in Orem the share was the same, 2.05% in both cases. 43.9% of the interstate's crashes were rear-end collisions, and officers flagged speed in 23.8%. Property-damage crashes below Utah's reporting threshold are not in UDOT's data, and nothing after August 4, 2025 is included.

Legal Steps After an Orem Crash

Start with your own policy. Utah's personal injury protection covers at least $3,000 in medical expenses no matter who was at fault (Utah Code § 31A-22-307). To recover for pain and suffering from the other driver, the injury must meet the threshold in § 31A-22-309, which includes a broken bone, a permanent impairment and medical expenses above $3,000; an uninsured motorist claim is not subject to that threshold. When the driver who caused the crash drove away and was never found, the law treats the vehicle as uninsured (§ 31A-22-305(2)(b)). Your own share of fault lowers the recovery and bars it unless the fault of those you claim against is greater (§ 78B-5-818). Most injury lawsuits have a four-year deadline (§ 78B-2-307), while a claim that Orem or UDOT designed or maintained a road unsafely requires a written notice of claim within one year (§ 63G-7-402). See our Orem car accident and Orem personal injury pages, Orem’s most dangerous intersections for crashes involving people on foot and on bikes, and the guides to proving fault, PIP claims and the time limit to sue.

Recoverable Losses After an Orem Crash

  • Economic losses: emergency treatment, hospital stays, follow-up care, prescriptions, lost wages and the cost of repairing or replacing your vehicle.
  • Non-economic losses: pain, anxiety after the crash, and the ordinary activities an injury makes difficult or impossible.
  • Future losses: care a doctor expects you to need later, reduced ability to work, and support at home for an injury that lasts.

Behind the Numbers

Records: UDOT's public crash data (Crash_Locations), every crash type, January 1, 2018 through August 4, 2025. City limits: UGRC's municipal boundaries, applied to all years. Streets: each crash was matched to the closest UGRC Utah Roads segment within 35 meters, preferring the road named by the officer; statewide that agreed with the report's road about nine times in ten. Orem's 2019 records are about half as numerous as the years around them (685 street crashes, against 1,483 in 2018 and 1,198 in 2020), which points to reports missing from the public data for that year, so this page does not compare years. Severity, driver flags and comparisons with the seven counties come from the same records; flags are officer notes, not findings of fault. Every city we have ranked this way is listed on our statewide page, Utah’s most dangerous roads.

Common Questions

What People Ask About Orem's Roads

Which Orem street sees the most collisions?

State Street, with 2,170 crashes from January 2018 through August 4, 2025, nearly twice the 1,172 on Center Street and the 1,146 on University Parkway.

Which road has the highest share of serious crashes?

Geneva Road (SR-114): 19 of its 489 crashes (3.89%) were serious or fatal, the highest share among Orem's fifteen busiest streets. State Street has the most serious crashes in total, 55.

Is I-15 safer than Orem's streets?

Not by this measure. 2.05% of I-15's 2,783 crashes in Orem were serious or fatal, the same share as on the city's streets, and 7 people died on the interstate during the period.

How often do drivers flee the scene in Orem?

Less often than elsewhere: officers flagged a driver leaving the scene in 3.3% of Orem's street crashes, against 8.6% across the seven counties. When it happens and the driver is never identified, your uninsured motorist coverage can respond.

Why don't these figures show a trend over time?

UDOT's public data holds far fewer Orem crashes for 2019 than for the years around it, which suggests missing reports. Year-to-year comparisons would be misleading, so the page sticks to totals for the whole period.
