Where Lehi Crashes Happen

Lehi grew into the center of Utah's tech cluster, known as Silicon Slopes, faster than its roads did. UDOT rebuilt I-15's Technology Corridor from Lehi Main Street to SR-92 starting in 2018, adding two lanes each way, a one-way frontage road system from 2100 North to SR-92 and rebuilt interchanges at SR-92 and 2100 North. Thanksgiving Point, which draws about 2.8 million visitors a year, and the Lehi FrontRunner station add their own traffic beside the freeway. Our Lehi’s most dangerous roads page ranks every street by the crashes UDOT recorded.

I-15 through Silicon Slopes

The main artery between the Salt Lake and Provo metro areas, running past the office parks. Traffic moves at freeway speed until it stops without warning, and rear-end and multi-vehicle crashes here happen at speeds that cause serious injuries.

Timpanogos Highway (SR-92)

It feeds the freeway, the outlet mall, the tech campuses and American Fork Canyon, compressing ramp traffic, signals and turning movements into a short distance. Turning and ramp collisions are the pattern here.

Pioneer Crossing

UDOT added a lane in each direction between Lehi and Saratoga Springs. More capacity moves more cars without making them slower, and wide, fast arterials with long signal spacing are where people on foot get hit.

The 2100 North construction zone

UDOT's project connecting I-15 to Mountain View Corridor at 2100 North means temporary lane shifts, concrete barrier, narrowed shoulders and merging heavy equipment for years. Confusing signage and shifted striping are often part of the argument.

Neighborhood roads, schools and trails

New neighborhoods, schools and trails sit between high-capacity roads. Children and people on foot or on bikes have no crumple zone, and crashes near schools and crossings are investigated closely.

Who responds in Lehi

Lehi City Police cover city streets, and the Utah Highway Patrol typically takes I-15 and the state highways. Work zones and temporary striping are part of driving in Lehi; if the road, a contractor's setup or a government vehicle contributed, the one-year notice-of-claim rule applies.

Who Covers the First Medical Bills

Utah's no-fault rule means your own PIP pays first: at least $3,000 in medical costs and 85% of lost gross income up to $250 weekly, for a maximum of 52 weeks. Full PIP breakdown.

An ER visit at American Fork Hospital can consume that fast. Before you can claim non-economic damages from the at-fault driver, Utah Code § 31A-22-309 asks for one of these:

  • Medical bills exceeding $3,000
  • A broken bone
  • Permanent impairment or disability established by objective findings
  • Permanent disfigurement
  • Dismemberment
  • A fatal injury

Once over the threshold, the at-fault driver's insurer is responsible for the entire claim, and if its limits run out, your UIM coverage adds on top. Details here.

Fault Arguments After a Lehi Crash

Utah law, Utah Code § 78B-5-818, reduces your recovery by your percentage of fault and eliminates it unless the other parties' combined fault exceeds yours.

Insurers here focus on following distance in stop-and-go I-15 traffic, whether you tracked the shifted lanes through a work zone, and where a walker or rider crossed Pioneer Crossing. Photos, the report, dash-cam video and early witness names are the counterweight; collect them before they disappear.

Clock on your claim

Most Lehi crash claims have four years, wrongful death has two, and claims against UDOT, UTA, Utah County or Lehi City need notice within one year. See all deadlines.

Lehi Accident Cases We Handle

Freeway rear-end and pile-up crashes

I-15 through Silicon Slopes, where traffic can go from freeway speed to a standstill in seconds. Lane position and each car's event data decide fault, and both need to be locked down early.

Work-zone crashes

The 2100 North interchange and other construction zones, where temporary lanes, barriers and signage can put the road itself, and sometimes a government entity, into the case.

Interchange and ramp crashes

Timpanogos Highway and the I-15 ramps, where ramp traffic, signals and turning movements meet in a short distance.

Pedestrian and cyclist crashes

Pioneer Crossing and the streets around schools and trailheads. Where the person crossed and what the driver could have seen decide these cases, and they need a different investigation than a two-car crash.

Uninsured drivers and hit-and-runs

When the driver is uninsured or drives away, your uninsured motorist coverage may be the main source of payment. If the other car never touched you, Utah requires clear and convincing proof that it existed, and an independent witness, not just your own account, can supply it, so report it quickly.

What to Do After a Lehi Collision

  • Call 911, whether it is Lehi City Police in town or the Highway Patrol on I-15 and state routes, and get the case number and agency before leaving.
  • Be examined that day. American Fork Hospital is a Level III trauma center, and Intermountain Primary Children's Hospital's Miller Family Campus in Lehi treats injured children. Some injuries don't show for hours.
  • Photograph the vehicles, lanes, barrels or barriers, signs, skid marks and debris.
  • Get witness contact information yourself; commuters don't wait around.
  • Open PIP with your own insurer, and skip the recorded statement for the other driver's insurer until your injuries are clear.

Lehi crash suits are filed in Utah County's Fourth District Court, which has courthouses in Provo and American Fork. Even though most claims settle, we prepare them for trial from the start.
