Where Springville Drivers Get Hurt

Springville, known as Art City for its museum and the bronze sculptures along Main Street, lies between Provo and Spanish Fork with the Wasatch foothills to the east and farmland running toward Utah Lake to the west. Freeway traffic reaches town at exit 260 on the south side and exit 265 in the northwest corner, both feeding east to Main Street, which is US-89, while SR-51 angles off toward Spanish Fork. For injuries outside a vehicle, see our Provo personal injury page, which serves Utah County's largest city next door. See Springville’s most dangerous roads for the crash counts on each street. Our Springville personal injury page covers injuries beyond car crashes, from falls to dog bites.

Main Street (US-89)

The historic downtown stretch, with curbside parking, crosswalks between storefronts and a steady stream of local errands. Speeds are modest, but constant parking moves and people stepping out between parked cars lead to sideswipes, backing collisions and pedestrians struck in the lane.

400 South (SR-77) and exit 260

SR-77 starts in farm country near Benjamin, crosses I-15 at exit 260 and becomes 400 South on its way into downtown, where it ends at Main Street. Freeway traffic, trucks and school and shopping trips all meet on it, and rear-end and turning crashes near the ramps are the usual result.

SR-75 and exit 265

On the north side, exit 265 feeds SR-75, a state route of about two miles that crosses the city to Main Street near the mountains in northeast Springville. Drivers accelerating off the freeway meet local traffic at signals, and merges at the ramps set up chain-reaction collisions.

SR-51 toward Spanish Fork

A two-lane undivided highway running a little over three miles from US-89 in Springville to 400 North in Spanish Fork. Its junction with US-89 is a 1959 grade-separated interchange, among the oldest still in service in Utah. Head-on and passing crashes on the undivided road and turning conflicts at farm and subdivision accesses are the pattern.

I-15 through Springville

Between exit 260, the Springville/Spanish Fork interchange to the south and exit 265, the freeway mixes local trips with freight bound for US-6. Lane-change sideswipes and high-speed rear-end impacts happen here; our truck crash guide covers claims against commercial carriers.

Investigating agencies in Springville

The Springville Police Department generally handles collisions on city streets, while the Utah Highway Patrol takes I-15. Traffic tickets go to the Springville Justice Court at 110 South Main Street, which handles citations and small claims rather than injury suits. When a Springville City, Utah County, UDOT or UTA road, signal or vehicle played a part, notice of claim is due within one year (Utah Code § 63G-7-402).

PIP Pays Before Anyone Else

Your own personal injury protection, required by Utah Code § 31A-22-307, covers at least $3,000 in reasonable medical expenses plus lost income at 85% of gross or $250 a week, whichever is less, for as long as 52 weeks, without any finding of fault. Read how Utah no-fault insurance works.

An emergency workup at Spanish Fork Hospital or a transfer to Utah Valley Hospital in Provo will exceed that figure quickly. To sue the driver who caused the crash for pain and other general damages, Utah Code § 31A-22-309(1) asks for at least one of these:

  • More than $3,000 in medical bills
  • A bone fracture
  • A permanent disability confirmed by objective medical findings
  • Disfigurement that is permanent
  • Dismemberment
  • Death

Clear that bar and the at-fault driver's insurer answers for your full damages. If their limits fall short, your UIM policy can add to what they pay.

Sharing the Blame in Springville Claims

Under Utah Code § 78B-5-818, the jury assigns percentages of fault; your award shrinks by your share, and you collect nothing from defendants whose combined fault does not exceed yours.

Downtown, insurers ask whether a car backing out of a Main Street space checked for traffic or whether a pedestrian crossed mid-block; near the ramps, they look at following distance; on SR-51, at whether someone passed on the undivided road. Early photographs, storefront cameras and the police diagram decide these arguments.

Time limits

You generally have four years to sue for injuries and two for a wrongful death, but claims against Springville City, Utah County, UDOT or UTA require a notice of claim within a year. See Utah injury deadlines.

Springville Collisions We Handle

Downtown parking and backing crashes

Along Main Street, where cars pull out of curbside spaces and drivers watch for a gap in traffic instead of for people.

Interchange and freeway crashes

At exits 260 and 265 and on I-15 through town, including tractor-trailers. Download the vehicles' crash data before repairs or salvage erase it.

SR-51 and rural-road crashes

On the undivided route to Spanish Fork and the county roads west of I-15, where speeds are higher and there is little room to recover from a mistake.

Pedestrians and cyclists

In downtown crosswalks, where Utah Code § 41-6a-1002 makes drivers slow or stop for a pedestrian on their half of the road, and on routes to schools. Our pedestrian guide walks through these claims. Pedestrian and bicycle crash counts at each Springville signal are on our Springville dangerous intersections page.

Uninsured and hit-and-run crashes

Uninsured motorist coverage can pay when the other driver has none or leaves the scene. For a phantom vehicle that never made contact, Utah Code § 31A-22-305(6) demands clear and convincing proof beyond your own word. Read our hit-and-run guide.

What to Do After a Springville Crash

  • Call 911; Springville officers respond in town and troopers on the interstate. Get the report number before you leave the scene.
  • See a doctor today. Spanish Fork Hospital is a state-designated Level IV trauma center, and Utah Valley Hospital in Provo is the closest Level II. Neck, back and head injuries can take a day to show up.
  • Take pictures of the damage, skid marks, signals and signs, and any parked cars that blocked your view.
  • Ask witnesses and nearby shop employees for their contact details.
  • Report to your own insurer for PIP and decline a recorded statement to the at-fault driver's carrier until you have advice. See how car accident attorneys deal with insurers.
