Roy is a largely residential city on the west side of I-15, and its traffic moves on a few state routes. 1900 West (SR-126) is the north-south spine, 5600 South (SR-97) runs east to an I-15 interchange and ends at the northwest gate of Hill Air Force Base, and Riverdale Road (SR-26) angles northeast toward Ogden. FrontRunner and Union Pacific tracks cut through the city near 2700 West, with a FrontRunner station in Roy. UDOT’s crash counts for each Roy street are on our Roy’s most dangerous roads page. Our Roy personal injury page covers injuries beyond car crashes, from falls to dog bites.
Roy’s main commercial strip, with shopping centers, fast-food driveways and signals at close intervals. Rear-end crashes and left turns across several lanes produce most of the claims.
This route crosses Roy from the west, meets I-15 and ends at Hill Air Force Base’s northwest gate. Shift traffic arrives in waves, and the queues near the interchange and gate invite rear-end collisions.
Freeway traffic heading to Ogden, Salt Lake and I-84 runs along the city’s eastern edge. Merging trucks and abrupt slowdowns set off multi-vehicle collisions, and the Highway Patrol handles those reports.
The diagonal link from Roy through Riverdale to Ogden, and a key connector between I-15 and I-84. Retail driveways and heavy interchange traffic lead to turning and sideswipe crashes.
Commuter trains and freight share the corridor through Roy, and the station area pulls cars, pedestrians and buses together at rush hour. A crossing collision involves the railroad’s gates, signals and sight lines, not just the drivers.

The Roy City Police Department investigates crashes on city streets, and the Utah Highway Patrol covers I-15. A collision on Hill Air Force Base, or with a federal employee on duty, may fall under the Federal Tort Claims Act and its administrative claim process. Your own auto policy’s personal injury protection comes first in Utah. It covers reasonable medical costs up to at least $3,000 and pays the lesser of 85% of lost gross income or $250 a week, for a maximum of 52 weeks, under § 31A-22-307. See Utah’s no-fault rules.
Emergency treatment at Ogden Regional Medical Center or McKay-Dee Hospital, both Level II trauma centers, can outrun that coverage in a single visit. Before you may sue the at-fault driver for non-economic losses, § 31A-22-309(1) requires at least one of:
With the threshold met, the at-fault driver’s liability carrier is answerable for all of your damages, and underinsured motorist coverage on your own policy can fill a shortfall. How UIM works in Utah.
Under § 78B-5-818, fault is split by percentage; you recover only when the defendants’ combined share exceeds yours, and your recovery shrinks by your portion.
Expect questions about whether you were following too closely in the 5600 South queue, whether you had a protected arrow on 1900 West, and whether a crossing arm was already down. Bus, business and doorbell camera footage is often recorded over, so it should be requested quickly.
When to file
Four years for most personal injury suits (§ 78B-2-307), two for wrongful death, and one year for a notice of claim against a government entity. More in Utah injury filing deadlines.
1900 West and Riverdale Road, where turning traffic and parking-lot exits collide. Pedestrian and bicycle crash counts at each Roy signal are on our Roy dangerous intersections page.
5600 South and the approaches to the northwest gate, where shift traffic stacks up in short windows and following distance decides fault.
I-15 near Roy and the I-84 junction in Riverdale, where merges and freight produce chain crashes. Truck data and driver logs need a preservation demand early; see our truck crash guide.
FrontRunner and freight tracks, where the railroad’s equipment, maintenance and signal records become part of the investigation.
Your uninsured motorist coverage may pay when the other driver has no policy or vanishes; Utah Code § 31A-22-305 counts an unidentified vehicle that left the scene as uninsured. Report promptly; our hit-and-run guide explains why.
