In Taylorsville, rideshare demand follows Salt Lake Community College. The Taylorsville Redwood Campus at 4600 South Redwood Road is the college's primary campus, and students without a car use Uber and Lyft to get to class, to work and home late at night. Pickups and drop-offs happen along Redwood Road, one of the busiest surface streets in the valley, and on the 4700 South and 5400 South corridors that tie into I-215 and Bangerter Highway.
Transit is part of the picture too. Since April 12, 2026, UTA's Midvalley Express has run between Murray Central and West Valley Central, a line UTA says was planned in part for Salt Lake Community College enrollment, and it is zero fare through April 2029. A short rideshare leg to or from a stop is still common, and a crash on one of those trips raises the same first question: which insurance period applied.
Where the Driver Was in the App
Utah Code § 13-51-108 assigns coverage by app status. In a Taylorsville case:
- Offline. The driver's personal policy is the source, and that policy may lawfully exclude rideshare use (§ 13-51-108(11)). If the app status is disputed, the two insurers may point at each other.
- Online, between trips. The waiting-period minimums are $50,000 for each injured person, $100,000 total and $30,000 for property.
- From accepting a request until the rider exits. The minimum is $1,000,000 per occurrence in liability coverage, and the same policy must carry PIP and uninsured and underinsured motorist coverage to the extent state insurance law requires (§ 13-51-108(1)).
A student's ride from the Redwood campus might be accepted in a parking lot and end on 5400 South ten minutes later. The time stamps and GPS trail show where each period began and ended, and we ask the company for them instead of trusting a summary. More in our Utah rideshare insurance guide.
Taylorsville Rideshare Claims by Role
A claim may be open to you as:
- A passenger going to or from SLCC, work or a bus connection.
- Another driver hit on Redwood Road, 4700 South or an I-215 ramp.
- A pedestrian crossing Redwood Road or walking to a bus stop. Our pedestrian claims guide covers those cases.
- A rideshare driver injured by a negligent motorist while on the app.
Your role decides which policies you can reach. For collisions without a rideshare car, visit our Taylorsville car accident lawyer page.
Utah Law for Taylorsville Riders
PIP benefits cover initial medical costs and part of lost wages without regard to fault (§ 31A-22-307; Utah no-fault overview). Under § 78B-5-818 recovery requires that the defendants' fault outweigh yours, and your share reduces it. Four years is the typical injury deadline, but a claim involving a UTA bus or a Salt Lake County or Taylorsville City vehicle needs a notice of claim within one year (§ 63G-7-402). Deadline details.
What's Local About a Taylorsville Case
Taylorsville Police take reports on city streets, and the Utah Highway Patrol covers I-215. Intermountain Medical Center in Murray is a nearby Level I trauma center. A lawsuit would be filed in Salt Lake County's Third District Court, at the Matheson Courthouse in Salt Lake City or at 8080 South Redwood Road in West Jordan. If you were hurt some other way, see our Taylorsville personal injury page.

Taylorsville Uber and Lyft Accident Questions
I was riding a Lyft home from SLCC and we were rear-ended on Redwood Road. Who pays?
The driver who rear-ended you is responsible first. PIP benefits pay early medical bills regardless of fault, and if the at-fault driver's coverage runs short, the UM/UIM coverage required during your ride may add to it.
Does the rideshare policy include PIP?
Yes. For both the waiting period and a prearranged ride, § 13-51-108 requires personal injury protection to the extent Utah's PIP statutes require it.
A rideshare driver hit me while I was walking to a bus stop. Can I make a claim?
Yes. Depending on the driver's app status, the rideshare coverage, the driver's personal policy or both may apply. Where you crossed and how visible you were will be argued, so photos and witnesses matter.
What does a Taylorsville rideshare accident lawyer cost?
There is no charge to talk with us, and cases are handled on contingency. You pay nothing up front, and no attorney fees unless we win.
How long do I have to file?
Generally four years for an injury claim and two for wrongful death, but only one year to give notice if UTA or another public entity is involved.
What records help most?
Screenshots of the trip, the receipt, the driver's name and plate, any messages, photos of the scene, witness names, and the Taylorsville Police or Highway Patrol case number.
