Utah DOT Crash Data

Millcreek's Most Dangerous Roads

3300 South logged more crashes than any other Millcreek street between January 1, 2018 and August 4, 2025, and more serious or fatal ones as well. Two street corners, State Street at 3900 South and 900 East at 4500 South, account for 420 of the city's street crashes between them. Below, Millcreek's streets are ranked by the crashes UDOT recorded, with a look at where people were most badly hurt.

Each crash in UDOT's records that fell inside Millcreek's current city boundary was matched to a street, using the state road map together with the road named in the officer's report. That gives a count for every street rather than for single intersections. Crashes on I-215, I-15, I-80 and their ramps are counted in a separate section below, and crashes in parking lots and on other private property are left out of the street totals. Serious or fatal means the report recorded a death or a suspected serious injury.

UDOT recorded 7,595 crashes inside Millcreek over those seven and a half years. Of them, 861 were on the freeways or their ramps, 240 were on private property and 25 could not be placed on a street, leaving 6,469 on Millcreek streets. Those street crashes included 159 that were serious or fatal (2.5%) and took 16 lives. In the Salt Lake, Utah, Davis, Weber, Summit, Cache and Washington County records used here, the serious-or-fatal share for street crashes is 2.6%. Someone was reported hurt, counting possible injuries, in 30.2% of Millcreek's street crashes, a little under the 32.1% for those counties.

Two Corners That Stand Out

State Street's stretch inside Millcreek recorded 335 crashes, and 189 of them happened where it meets 3900 South. 3900 South's own record adds another 44 at the same corner, for 233 in all, 8 of them serious or fatal. The second corner is 900 East at 4500 South: 96 crashes on 900 East's side of the count and 91 on 4500 South's, 187 together, 6 of them serious or fatal.

Because a crash at a junction is credited to only one street, usually the one the officer named, a corner's full total has to be pieced together from both streets' records. Read that way, these two intersections account for 420 of Millcreek's 6,469 street crashes, 6.5%, and 14 of the 159 serious or fatal crashes. Both sit on state routes or meet one: State Street is US-89, and 4500 South is SR-266.

The Streets That Fill Millcreek's Crash Records

Streets are listed by the number of crashes UDOT placed on them inside city limits, January 2018 through August 4, 2025. The cross streets shown are where each street's own crashes gather most, using that street's share of each corner.

  • 2300 East — 218 crashes, 6 serious or fatal, 1 death. Rear-end collisions are 47.2% of its crashes, the highest share among these ten, and 62 of its crashes were at 3300 South.

Together the ten streets carry 4,383 crashes, 67.8% of the Millcreek total, with 108 of the 159 serious or fatal crashes and 13 of the 16 deaths. Three of them, 3300 South, 3900 South and 4500 South, are the long east-west routes that most of the city's north-south streets cross, and they show up again and again in the corner counts.

Highland Drive and the Fatal Crashes

Sorted by serious or fatal crashes, the order shifts. 3300 South still leads with 18, but State Street moves up to second with 17, and 4500 South and Highland Drive tie at 15. State Street's 5.1% serious-or-fatal share is the highest among Millcreek's fifteen busiest streets. Highland Drive carries the heaviest loss: 5 of its 15 serious or fatal crashes were fatal, one in three, against 16 of 159 citywide. No other street among the fifteen busiest recorded more than 2 deaths.

Side Impacts, Pedestrians and Older Drivers

Side-impact crashes are the most common type on Millcreek streets at 37.3%, above the 32.6% across the seven counties, and rear-end crashes are 28.0%. The worst outcomes fall elsewhere. UDOT's single-vehicle or not-applicable group, which covers a vehicle hitting a pedestrian, a cyclist or a fixed object, holds 78 of the 159 serious or fatal crashes. Pedestrians were in 2.6% of all crashes but 37 of the serious or fatal ones, 23.3%, against 15.1% across the seven counties. Cyclists were in 14 of them.

Officers flagged an older driver in 20.7% of Millcreek street crashes, against 14.9% across the seven counties, and a teen driver in 17.4%, against 23.8%. A driver left the scene in 788 crashes, 12.2%, compared with 8.6%. Mornings are quieter than elsewhere: 9.3% of crashes came between 6 and 9 a.m., against 12.6%. Crashes fell from 957 in 2018 to 767 in 2024, about 20%, but serious or fatal crashes did not: 21 in 2018, 21 in 2024, and 31 in 2023, the highest year.

I-215 and the Other Freeways

Freeways and ramps account for 861 crashes inside Millcreek, 11.3% of the city's total, and they are kept out of the street ranking. I-215 had 590 of them, with 13 serious or fatal and 2 deaths; officers flagged speed in 205. I-15 had 171, with 3 serious or fatal and 1 death, and I-80 had 86. Crashes below Utah's property-damage reporting threshold never reach UDOT's records, and nothing after August 4, 2025 is included.

Insurance, Fault and Deadlines After a Millcreek Crash

Your own personal injury protection is the first coverage to pay, with at least $3,000 for medical care whoever caused the crash (Utah Code § 31A-22-307). To claim pain and other non-economic losses from the at-fault driver, the injury must pass the threshold in § 31A-22-309, such as a fracture, permanent disability or disfigurement, or medical costs above $3,000; an uninsured motorist claim is not held to that threshold. A driver who flees and is never identified is treated as uninsured (§ 31A-22-305(2)(b)). Any fault assigned to you lowers the award, and you recover only if the other parties together were more at fault than you (§ 78B-5-818). The deadline for most injury lawsuits is four years (§ 78B-2-307). If you believe a road's design or upkeep contributed, a written notice of claim must reach the city or the state within one year (§ 63G-7-402). Our Millcreek car accident and Millcreek personal injury pages explain how these claims proceed, and the statewide guides cover how fault is proven, how to file a PIP claim and the deadline to bring a case.

What a Millcreek Injury Claim Covers

  • Money already lost: emergency and follow-up treatment, medication, wages missed during recovery, and the cost to repair or replace the vehicle.
  • Harm that has no invoice: physical pain, anxiety behind the wheel, and the routines and activities an injury interrupts.
  • What lies ahead: later surgery or therapy, reduced earning power, and help at home when an injury does not fully heal.

How the Counts Were Made

Records: UDOT's public Crash_Locations data, all crash types, January 1, 2018 through August 4, 2025, where the published series ends. City limits: UGRC's municipal boundary map, with today's boundary used for every year. Street matching: the closest UGRC Utah Roads segment within 35 meters, preferring the road the officer named; statewide, the match agreed with the officer's road in about 89% of crashes. Serious or fatal: coded fatal or suspected serious injury. Flags such as hit and run or older driver are what the officer recorded, not findings of fault. County comparisons use the seven counties in this data. Every city we have ranked this way is listed on our statewide page, Utah’s most dangerous roads.
