North Ogden is a city of about 21,000 people (20,916 at the 2020 census) beneath Ben Lomond Peak at the north end of the Ogden area. It has no freeway of its own. Traffic arrives on Washington Boulevard from Ogden, on 2700 North from Pleasant View and I-15, and on neighborhood streets that climb the bench, so most crashes here happen at signals, driveways and school crossings rather than at interstate speed.

Extended east to Washington Boulevard in 2004, this state route links North Ogden through Pleasant View to US-89 and the I-15 interchange in Farr West. Commuters drive it briskly, and cross streets from newer subdivisions feed straight into that traffic.
North of downtown Ogden, US-89 leaves Washington Boulevard and angles northwest along Harrisville Road, crossing 2700 North in Pleasant View; I-15 lies farther west. A North Ogden commuter's worst crash often happens on one of these, outside city limits, which changes who writes the report.
East of town the road over the North Ogden Divide climbs steeply toward Ogden Valley, with tight curves, little shoulder, cyclists in summer and deer at dusk. Below it, sloped bench streets turn slick within minutes of a snowstorm.
The residential grid carries parents, school buses and teenage drivers at the same hours every weekday. Backing, crosswalk and turning crashes at low speed still cause fractures and concussions, especially for a child on foot or on a bike.
Who writes the report
Inside city limits the North Ogden Police Department, at 515 East 2600 North, investigates. On the divide above town and other unincorporated county roads the Weber County Sheriff's Office usually responds, and Utah Highway Patrol troopers handle I-15. If a snowplow, a city or county vehicle, or a signal or road defect played a part, Utah Code § 63G-7-402 bars the claim unless a notice of claim is filed within one year.
Your own auto policy's personal injury protection covers at least $3,000 of medical treatment, plus the lesser of $250 a week or 85% of lost gross income for up to 52 weeks, whoever caused the collision (Utah Code § 31A-22-307). Our no-fault guide explains each benefit.
An ambulance to McKay-Dee Hospital on Harrison Boulevard and one CT scan can use most of it. Before you can pursue pain and suffering against the driver at fault, Utah Code § 31A-22-309 asks for at least one of these:
Clear that bar and the at-fault driver's liability insurer answers for the whole loss. When that policy is too small, your own underinsured motorist coverage can pay on top of it; see UIM claims in Utah.
Utah Code § 78B-5-818 cuts your award by your percentage of fault, and you recover nothing from the other side unless their combined fault is greater than yours.
In North Ogden the insurer's questions are predictable: whether you had room to turn left across Washington Boulevard, how fast you were coming down the bench in snow, and whether a cyclist on the divide was riding where a driver could see them. Store cameras, doorbell video and the names of people who stopped answer those questions, but only if someone gathers them in the first days.
Your deadlines
Most injury suits must be filed within four years of the crash (§ 78B-2-307), and wrongful death claims within two. A claim involving North Ogden City, Weber County, UDOT or UTA needs a notice of claim within one year. See the Utah deadline guide.
A driver turning left must yield to oncoming traffic close enough to be an immediate hazard (Utah Code § 41-6a-903), yet insurers still argue the oncoming driver was speeding or ran a yellow light.
Rear-end and cross-street impacts on the route toward Pleasant View and I-15, where through traffic moves faster than drivers pulling out of new neighborhoods expect.
Head-on and run-off-road crashes on the climb toward Ogden Valley, and riders struck by passing drivers. Utah Code § 41-6a-706.5 prohibits a driver from knowingly or recklessly operating within three feet of a cyclist.
Children walking or biking to school along residential streets. The driver's speed, lookout and the school-zone signs usually decide these cases.
When the at-fault driver is uninsured or leaves, your uninsured motorist coverage can step in. If the other car never touched you, Utah Code § 31A-22-305(6) requires clear and convincing evidence that it existed, beyond your own testimony, so write down plates and witness names.
