Where Saratoga Springs Crashes Happen

Saratoga Springs stretches along the west shore of Utah Lake, and nearly every trip out of it runs through a handful of state highways: Redwood Road north and south, Pioneer Crossing east to Lehi and I-15, and SR-73 toward Eagle Mountain. New neighborhoods keep feeding more cars onto those same roads. UDOT’s crash records for each Saratoga Springs street are ranked on our Saratoga Springs’ most dangerous roads page.

Redwood Road (SR-68)

The city's north-south spine. In town it is a signalized arterial with busy turn pockets; farther south it becomes an undivided two-lane highway at open-road speeds. Broadside crashes at intersections and head-on crashes on the rural stretch are the serious ones.

Pioneer Crossing (SR-145)

A fast, divided route to Lehi, American Fork and the freeway that still stops at signals. Red-light and yellow-light disputes at the Redwood Road junction, and rear-end crashes in the evening queue, are typical.

SR-73

The road Eagle Mountain and Cedar Valley commuters use to reach Saratoga Springs and beyond. Peak-hour queues cause rear-end crashes, and a driver turning left across oncoming traffic must yield under Utah Code § 41-6a-903, the rule most SR-73 turning claims hinge on.

Mountain View Corridor (SR-85)

The corridor already ties into SR-73 and Pioneer Crossing, and UDOT has been working to extend it. Construction brings shifted lanes and temporary striping, and a contractor or road agency may share fault if the traffic control was inadequate.

Neighborhood collectors and school routes

Streets built for subdivisions now carry through traffic between the arterials, past parks and schools. Children crossing, cars backing out of driveways and drivers cutting through to avoid a signal all meet here.

Who investigates a Saratoga Springs crash

The city has its own police department, which handles most crashes on local streets. The Utah Highway Patrol often takes crashes on the state routes, including Redwood Road, Pioneer Crossing and SR-73. Where a road agency or government vehicle is involved, a notice of claim must be filed within one year (Utah Code § 63G-7-402).

PIP Comes Before the Liability Claim

Utah's no-fault law makes your own policy pay first: at least $3,000 in medical expenses, and lost income at 85% of gross, capped at $250 a week for up to 52 weeks (Utah Code § 31A-22-307). Read our PIP explainer.

An ambulance transport and imaging can exhaust that $3,000 in a single afternoon. Utah Code § 31A-22-309 lets you pursue the at-fault driver for pain and suffering once you have one of these:

  • More than $3,000 in medical expenses
  • A bone fracture
  • A permanent impairment or disability based on objective findings
  • Permanent scarring or disfigurement
  • Loss of a limb
  • Death of the injured person

From there, the other driver's liability coverage is responsible. When it runs short, your own underinsured motorist coverage can make up the difference; here's how UIM works.

Fault Arguments on Saratoga Springs Roads

Utah uses modified comparative fault (Utah Code § 78B-5-818): your damages shrink by your share of the blame, and you recover nothing if your share equals or exceeds the defendants'.

Expect the adjuster to say you entered Pioneer Crossing on a stale yellow, misjudged the gap on SR-73, or were speeding on the open part of Redwood Road. Signal timing records, intersection video, vehicle damage and independent witnesses are the answer, and construction layouts can change before anyone photographs them.

Filing deadlines

Four years is the usual limit for injury claims, two years for wrongful death, and one year for notice to a public entity such as UDOT or Saratoga Springs City. Our deadline guide explains the details.

Saratoga Springs Crash Cases We Take

Intersection broadsides

Redwood Road and Pioneer Crossing junctions, where one driver runs a light or turns too soon and the other car is struck in the side.

Work-zone crashes

Crashes inside Mountain View Corridor or arterial construction, where lane shifts, missing signs or poor tapers may put part of the blame on a contractor or agency.

Rural-highway head-on crashes

The undivided southern stretch of Redwood Road, where a single lane departure at highway speed can cause catastrophic injuries.

Pedestrians, cyclists and children

Kids walking to school and riders on neighborhood routes crossing wide arterials. Read about bicycle crash claims and pedestrian claims in Utah.

Drivers with no insurance

If the at-fault driver is uninsured or flees, the claim often moves to your own uninsured motorist coverage. If the fleeing vehicle never touched you, its existence must be proven by clear and convincing evidence beyond your own testimony, so call police immediately.

First Steps After a Saratoga Springs Crash

  • Call 911 and confirm whether Saratoga Springs Police or the Highway Patrol is writing the report. Get the case number before you leave.
  • Get examined the same day. American Fork Hospital, at 170 North 1100 East in American Fork, runs a 24/7 emergency department. Whiplash and brain-injury symptoms are often delayed.
  • Photograph the vehicles, signals, lane markings, and any cones or construction signs; work-zone layouts are often moved within days.
  • Ask witnesses for names and numbers, not just what they saw.
  • Open PIP with your own insurer and decline a recorded interview with the other insurer until you have advice.
