UTAH COUNTY

Cedar Hills Car Accident Lawyer

Hit on SR-92, Canyon Road or North County Boulevard in Cedar Hills? Talk with a Utah injury firm for free, and owe no attorney fees unless we win.

Traffic That Passes Through Cedar Hills

Cedar Hills is mostly homes on the bench below Mount Timpanogos, yet it sits on two busy state routes: SR-92, the Timpanogos Highway that climbs toward American Fork Canyon, and North County Boulevard (SR-129), which feeds commuters from Pleasant Grove north to SR-92. Canyon Road, a former state highway, still runs along the east side past City Hall at 10246 North Canyon Road. Our Cedar Hills personal injury page covers claims beyond vehicle crashes.

SR-92 (Timpanogos Highway)

Commuters bound for I-15 in Lehi and visitors heading up to Timpanogos Cave, Sundance and the Alpine Loop share these lanes. Rear-end hits at the signals and left turns misjudged against fast oncoming traffic are the usual claims, and Utah Code § 41-6a-903 puts the duty to yield on the driver turning left.

North County Boulevard (SR-129)

A four-lane commuter route whose junction with SR-92 gathers turning traffic from two highways at a single light. T-bone collisions and red-light disputes show up here, so signal records and any intersection video should be requested quickly.

Canyon Road

Once numbered SR-146, Canyon Road now serves driveways and side streets while many drivers still use it as a through route. The city even publishes a number for removing deer carcasses from Canyon Road, a reminder that wildlife shares this road with cars.

The bench streets in winter

Steep residential grades above and below Canyon Road lose traction quickly once snow packs down. Sliding is not an excuse; a driver is still expected to travel at a speed that allows a stop on the surface actually there.

School and park traffic

Neighborhood schools and city parks put children at the curb during the morning and afternoon rush. When a child or walker is struck in a crosswalk, Utah Code § 41-6a-1002 required the driver to slow or stop, and at an occupied school crosswalk it requires a full stop.

Who writes the Cedar Hills crash report

Cedar Hills has no police force of its own. The city contracts with American Fork City, so officers from the American Fork Police Department, based at 75 East 80 North in American Fork, respond to crashes on city streets, and fire and ambulance service come through the city's contract with the American Fork Fire Department. The Utah Highway Patrol may take a crash on a state highway, so ask at the scene which agency has the case.

Start With Your Own PIP Coverage

In Utah your own auto policy pays first, whoever caused the crash: Utah Code § 31A-22-307 sets a floor of $3,000 for medical care plus 85% of lost gross income, capped at $250 a week for up to 52 weeks. Here is how Utah's no-fault rules work.

An ambulance to American Fork Hospital and a round of imaging can exhaust that floor quickly. General damages from the at-fault driver, such as pain and suffering, open up under Utah Code § 31A-22-309 once you have:

  • More than $3,000 in medical expenses
  • A broken bone
  • Permanent disability or impairment shown by objective findings
  • Permanent disfigurement
  • Dismemberment
  • A death in the crash

Once one applies, you can pursue the negligent driver for the whole loss, and if that driver carries only a small policy, your own underinsured motorist coverage may add to it.

Sharing Fault on a Commuter Highway

Utah Code § 78B-5-818 lets you recover only when the fault of those you sue is greater than yours, and the percentage assigned to you is taken out of the award.

Insurers in Cedar Hills cases tend to argue that you turned onto SR-92 into too small a gap, braked too hard at the light, or took a bench street too fast for the snow. Dashcam clips, the officer's diagram and neighbors' doorbell cameras answer those claims, but only if someone collects them early.

Time limits

Four years is the usual limit for an injury suit after a Utah crash and two years for wrongful death. When the city, Utah County, UDOT or another public body is involved, a notice of claim is due within one year (Utah Code § 63G-7-402). Details are in our Utah deadline guide.

Cedar Hills Collisions We Take On

Canyon-bound traffic

Crashes with drivers heading to or from American Fork Canyon on SR-92, including drivers towing trailers or unfamiliar with the grade.

Crashes at the highway junctions

Broadside and turning collisions where SR-92 meets North County Boulevard and the neighborhood connectors.

Deer and chain-reaction crashes

Deer on Canyon Road cause sudden swerves and stops; when a following driver was too close or too fast, that driver can be responsible for the second impact.

People walking, running and cycling

Pedestrians and riders on the bench streets and on SR-92 toward the canyon. Utah Code § 41-6a-706.5 bars a driver from knowingly, intentionally or recklessly passing within three feet of them. Our bicycle crash guide explains riders' claims.

Hit-and-run and uninsured drivers

Your uninsured motorist coverage can respond when the other driver has none or drives off. If there was no contact, Utah Code § 31A-22-305(6) requires clear and convincing evidence beyond your own word, so call it in and collect witness names right away.

After a Crash in Cedar Hills

  • Call 911. Expect American Fork officers on city streets, possibly the Highway Patrol on a state route, and note the agency and case number.
  • Get medical care the same day. American Fork Hospital, a state-designated Level III trauma center, is nearby; the most serious injuries go to Utah Valley Hospital in Provo, a Level II center.
  • Photograph the vehicles, the road surface, any snow or ice, and the signal or sign that controlled your lane.
  • Ask neighbors about doorbell or driveway cameras before the footage records over.
  • Report the crash to your insurer to start PIP, and let the other company's adjuster wait for any recorded statement. See how we deal with insurers.

A Cedar Hills crash that becomes a lawsuit is filed in Utah County's Fourth Judicial District Court, at 137 North Freedom Boulevard in Provo. Few cases reach trial, yet we prepare every file as though one will. For crashes closer to the freeway, see our American Fork car accident page, or call (801) 921-5134. Free consultation.
