Centerville's Crash Corridors

Centerville fits into a narrow band between the Wasatch foothills and the wetlands near the Great Salt Lake, so much of its traffic funnels onto Parrish Lane, which ties the I-15 interchange to Main Street, the shopping centers and the east side of town. Two highways frame the city: US-89 above it and Legacy Parkway to the west. For injuries other than vehicle crashes, visit our Centerville personal injury page. The full street-by-street ranking for Centerville is on our Centerville’s most dangerous roads page.

Parrish Lane

Retail entrances every few hundred feet, left-turn pockets and traffic spilling back from the freeway ramps. Utah Code § 41-6a-903 requires a driver pulling onto the road from a lot or driveway to yield to vehicles already on it, which settles many of these disputes.

The Parrish Lane interchange on I-15

Short weaving distances and drivers crossing lanes at the last moment to make an exit. Sideswipes and chain rear-end crashes are the typical result.

US-89 above town

A limited-access highway with interchanges, higher speeds and merges that leave little time to react. Winter snow and ice on the bench lengthen stopping distances further.

Legacy Parkway

The western route beside the wetlands, with long gaps between exits and dark stretches at night. Run-off-road and nighttime collisions are the pattern here.

Main Street and 400 West

Older streets with driveways, parked cars and trail crossings that bring cyclists and walkers into the roadway. Our guide to bicycle crash claims in Utah covers riders' rights.

Who investigates in Centerville

The Centerville Police Department, at 250 North Main Street, handles crashes inside the city, and the Utah Highway Patrol generally takes I-15, US-89 and Legacy Parkway. Traffic citations go to the Centerville Justice Court in the same building; injury lawsuits go to district court. Claims involving a city, county, UDOT or UTA road or vehicle carry a one-year notice requirement.

PIP Is Your First Source of Payment

Utah Code § 31A-22-307 has your own insurer pay at least $3,000 in medical bills and 85% of lost gross wages, up to $250 a week for as long as 52 weeks, no matter who was at fault. More on Utah PIP.

A trip to Lakeview Hospital's emergency department in Bountiful and a CT scan can reach that limit quickly. To claim pain and suffering, Utah Code § 31A-22-309 needs one of these:

  • Over $3,000 in medical expenses
  • A fracture
  • A permanent, objectively documented impairment
  • Permanent disfigurement
  • Dismemberment
  • A fatal injury

With one of those, the at-fault driver's insurer is responsible for your full losses, and UIM coverage can pay on top when that policy is not enough.

Fault Arguments on Parrish Lane and Beyond

Utah Code § 78B-5-818 reduces what you recover by your share of fault and blocks recovery if yours is not less than the combined fault of those you sue.

Expect the insurer to say you left a store entrance without enough room, followed too closely in the Parrish Lane backup, or changed lanes too late at the interchange. Store cameras, dashcam footage and witnesses answer those claims when they are gathered early.

Deadlines

Four years for most injury suits, two for wrongful death, and one year to notify Centerville City, Davis County, UDOT or UTA of a claim (Utah Code § 63G-7-402). Read the full guide to Utah deadlines.

Centerville Car Crash Claims We Handle

Retail driveway crashes

Vehicles leaving or entering shopping centers on Parrish Lane and colliding with through traffic.

Interchange crashes

At the I-15 ramps, where merges and sudden stops cause chain collisions. Vehicle data has to be saved before it is overwritten.

US-89 and Legacy Parkway crashes

Higher-speed collisions on the two highways that frame the city, including night and winter-weather crashes.

Cyclists and walkers

People hit at trail crossings and on the older streets. Inside a crosswalk, Utah Code § 41-6a-1002 requires drivers to slow down or stop for them.

Uninsured and hit-and-run drivers

Uninsured motorist coverage often steps in when the other driver has no insurance or flees; a no-contact case needs clear and convincing proof beyond your own testimony (Utah Code § 31A-22-305(6)). See what to do after a hit-and-run.
