Ogden Rideshare Accident Lawyer
Injured in an Uber or Lyft in Ogden? We find out what the driver's app was doing when the crash happened, because that sets the coverage. Free consultation, no attorney fees unless we win. Hablamos Español.
Ogden's rideshare traffic bunches up in a few places: Historic 25th Street when the restaurants and bars let out, the Weber State campus on the east bench, Ogden Central Station where FrontRunner trains meet the OGX buses, and the on-ramps to I-15 for trips south toward Salt Lake. Those are also the places where a curbside pickup, a quick U-turn, or a driver checking the screen for the next request turns into a collision.
When it happens, the injured person often hears from two or three insurers at once, each pointing at the other. Utah's rideshare statute settles much of that argument, as long as someone gets the trip data showing which period the driver was in. That is where our legal team starts.
What the Driver's App Status Means for Your Claim
The insurance a rideshare driver must carry in Utah depends on the driver's status (Utah Code § 13-51-108):
- App closed. Only the driver's own auto insurance is in play, and a personal policy may exclude rideshare driving altogether, so the personal insurer may insist the app was on in order to avoid paying.
- App open, waiting for a request. Minimum coverage of $50,000 for each injured person, $100,000 per crash and $30,000 for property, plus PIP and uninsured/underinsured coverage where Utah requires it.
- Request accepted, through drop-off. At least $1,000,000 in liability coverage per occurrence, starting when the driver accepts the ride rather than when the rider gets in.
A driver who had just accepted a request outside a 25th Street restaurant and a driver still waiting for one can be carrying policies worth very different amounts. Utah also bars these policies from making the driver's personal insurer deny the claim first (§ 13-51-108(10)). Our Utah rideshare insurance guide covers the details.
People Hurt in Ogden Rideshare Crashes
A claim can belong to anyone the crash touched, including:
- Passengers headed to or from 25th Street, Weber State or the station.
- Other motorists on Washington Boulevard, Harrison Boulevard or Riverdale Road hit by a working driver.
- Pedestrians stepping off a curb near campus or downtown, where riders are often dropped mid-block.
- The Uber or Lyft driver, when someone else causes the crash.
Each role points to a different set of policies. For crashes that did not involve Uber or Lyft, our Ogden car accident lawyer page walks through the ordinary claim.
The Utah Law Underneath It
Personal injury protection pays early medical bills and part of lost wages regardless of fault (§ 31A-22-307), as our no-fault explainer describes. Your recovery shrinks by your share of fault and is barred unless the defendants' combined fault exceeds yours (§ 78B-5-818). You generally have four years to sue, and only one year for a notice of claim when a government vehicle such as a UTA bus is involved; see Utah injury deadlines.
Handling an Ogden Rideshare Case
Ogden City Police take crashes inside the city, and the Utah Highway Patrol covers I-15 and I-84. McKay-Dee Hospital, a Level II trauma center at the end of the OGX line, is where many serious injuries are treated. Weber County lawsuits are filed in the Second Judicial District Court at 2525 Grant Avenue. The rideshare insurer's first moves are usually to question the timing of the ride request and to make an offer before treatment ends; we answer with the trip records and complete medical documentation. More on local claims is on our Ogden personal injury page.
Losses an Ogden Claim Can Cover
- Bills and wages: emergency care, follow-up treatment, and the paychecks an injury costs you now and later.
- Pain and disruption: physical pain, sleepless nights, and the parts of life put on hold.
- Lasting injury: future surgery and care when recovery is incomplete. For how passenger cases are valued, read what affects Uber passenger settlements.
- Fatal crashes: the wrongful death claims Utah gives to a family, which carry a two-year filing deadline.

What Ogden Riders and Drivers Ask Us
I was in a Lyft leaving 25th Street when another car ran a light. Can I claim against Lyft's coverage?
The other driver's insurer is first in line. If that policy is missing or too small, the uninsured and underinsured motorist coverage required during a prearranged ride may be available, along with your own.
The driver who hit me was logged into Uber but had no ride. What coverage is there?
The waiting-period coverage, which Utah sets at no less than $50,000 per person and $100,000 per crash for injuries. If that is not enough, your own underinsured motorist coverage may add to it.
I drive for Uber in Ogden and someone rear-ended me. Who pays?
The at-fault driver's insurer owes your injury claim. PIP pays early bills regardless of fault, and uninsured or underinsured coverage may help if the other driver's policy falls short.
How much does it cost to hire you?
Nothing up front. The consultation is free, we work on contingency, and there are no attorney fees unless we win.
What is the deadline to file in Utah?
Four years for most injury claims and two for wrongful death. A notice of claim against a government entity, such as UTA, is due within one year.
What should I do in the first day?
Get checked by a doctor, screenshot the trip in the app, photograph the vehicles and the street, and write down witness names. Report the crash in the app, and speak with us before giving any insurer a recorded statement.
