Lehi Rideshare Accident Lawyer

Hurt in an Uber, a Lyft or an app-booked UTA On Demand ride in Lehi? Which policy pays depends on records the companies keep, and our legal team asks for them early. Free consultation, and no attorney fees unless we win. Hablamos Español.

Getting around Lehi without a car of your own has changed quickly. In August 2026 UTA On Demand opened a North Utah County zone covering parts of Lehi, American Fork, Highland, Saratoga Springs and Eagle Mountain, and UTA lists the Lehi FrontRunner station and Primary Children's Hospital – Lehi among its destinations. UTA also says that at peak hours an eligible rider may be sent a Lyft instead of a Via vehicle. Add the everyday Uber and Lyft runs between the FrontRunner platform at 3101 North Ashton Boulevard, Thanksgiving Point and the offices along I-15, and a single Lehi crash can involve more than one kind of app-booked ride.

The distinction matters. Utah sets rideshare insurance by the driver's status in the company's app, while a claim against a public transit agency follows its own notice rules. What a passenger thinks of as simply a ride may fall under a rideshare company's policy, a driver's personal policy or a public agency, and the answer sits in records that the company, the city and UTA each keep. Lehi's roads add a second clock: work zones such as the I-15 and Mountain View Corridor connection at 2100 North move lanes and barriers from month to month, so the scene itself may not last.

Three Settings in the Driver's App

Utah's rideshare insurance section, § 13-51-108, keys the required coverage to three settings, using the definitions in § 13-51-102:

  • Off. With the driver logged out, no rideshare policy has to exist, so the driver's own auto insurance is the first place to look. Personal insurers may exclude losses from rideshare driving (§ 13-51-108(11)), which is why it is so often disputed whether the driver had really switched off, and why only the company's log settles it.
  • On, but unmatched. While a driver is logged in without an accepted request, the law requires at least $50,000 for each injured person, $100,000 for all injuries in one crash and $30,000 for property, plus PIP and the uninsured and underinsured motorist coverage Utah requires.
  • Matched through drop-off. From the moment the driver accepts a request until the passenger gets out, the coverage has to be primary and provide at least $1,000,000 of liability coverage per occurrence, and it must include PIP and uninsured and underinsured motorist protection.

The step from the second setting to the third is where coverage disputes tend to start, because a driver idling near Thanksgiving Point or the FrontRunner lot can accept a request seconds before impact. Utah's definition of a rideshare driver also covers a level four or five automated driving system that carries paying passengers (§ 13-51-102), so the same insurance section reaches driverless ride-hail vehicles. Our Utah rideshare insurance guide walks through each setting.

Not Only Passengers Can Claim

One Lehi rideshare crash can give several people a claim against that coverage:

  • Riders booked from a tech campus, a FrontRunner arrival or an evening at Thanksgiving Point.
  • Drivers of other cars on Timpanogos Highway, Pioneer Crossing or 2100 North when a rideshare vehicle caused the collision.
  • People walking through a pickup zone or crossing Ashton Boulevard toward the station.
  • Rideshare drivers hurt by someone else while logged in; when the at-fault driver carries too little, underinsured motorist coverage may matter.

Matching each person to the right policy is the first task when several people are hurt. For collisions with no rideshare car in them, our Lehi car accident lawyer page is the place to start, and our Lehi pedestrian accident page covers people struck on foot.

The Utah Rules Underneath

PIP from your own policy pays at least $3,000 of early medical bills regardless of fault (§ 31A-22-307; Utah's no-fault rules explained), and stepping outside it to claim pain and suffering takes a qualifying injury, such as a fracture, a permanent impairment shown by objective findings, or medical costs above $3,000 (§ 31A-22-309). Fault is compared under § 78B-5-818: your percentage is subtracted, and a claimant whose share equals or exceeds that of everyone else recovers nothing. The general limit for an injury suit is four years (§ 78B-2-307), but when Lehi City, Utah County, UTA or UDOT is involved, a written notice of claim is due within one year (§ 63G-7-402), as our filing deadlines page explains.

Lehi Records Worth Requesting Early

Crashes on city streets are investigated by the Lehi Police Department, which works from 128 North 100 East and releases crash reports through LexisNexis BuyCrash; the Utah Highway Patrol generally takes crashes on I-15. A citation written in the city goes to the Lehi Justice Court at 154 North Center Street, which rules on the ticket rather than the injury claim. Lehi Fire Department medic ambulances run out of stations including Station 81 at 176 North Center Street, Station 82 at 250 West 2600 North and Station 83 at 3870 North Traverse Mountain Boulevard. The state lists Holy Cross Hospital – Mountain Point in Lehi and American Fork Hospital as Level III trauma centers, and Primary Children's Hospital – Lehi treats injured children. A suit, if one is needed, belongs in the Fourth Judicial District Court, which serves Utah County from courthouses at 137 North Freedom Boulevard in Provo and 75 East 80 North in American Fork. For the street-by-street record, including the 1,108 crashes UDOT recorded on Main Street from January 1, 2018 through August 4, 2025, see Lehi's most dangerous roads; our Lehi personal injury page covers other cases.

Losses a Lehi Rideshare Claim Can Include

  • Medical and wage losses: ambulance transport, emergency and follow-up care, prescriptions, missed paychecks, and lost capacity to earn if the injury lasts.
  • Non-economic harm: the pain itself, anxiety about riding with strangers, and the parts of daily life the injury interrupts.
  • Future care: procedures, therapy and help at home that are still ahead. Our article on Uber passenger settlement amounts lists what moves the value, and the steps in a Utah injury case show how a claim proceeds.
  • Wrongful death: where someone is killed, the family's claim generally has a two-year deadline; see our Lehi wrongful death lawyer page.

Lehi Rideshare FAQs

Common Questions After a Lehi Uber or Lyft Crash

My UTA On Demand trip in Lehi arrived as a Lyft. Whose insurance covers me?

It depends on how the trip was dispatched and what the driver's Lyft app recorded, so we begin with the trip records from UTA's On Demand app and from Lyft rather than guessing. If UTA itself becomes a party to the claim, a written notice of claim is due within one year.

My crash happened in the 2100 North construction zone. Does that change anything?

It can. If temporary lanes, signs or barriers played a part, a contractor or a public agency such as UDOT may share responsibility, and a claim against a public agency needs a notice of claim within one year. Photos of the work zone as it looked that day are valuable because the layout keeps changing.

The driver claims he had logged off before the crash. How is that checked?

Rideshare companies keep login times, request acceptances and location data. We request them promptly and compare them with your receipt, messages, any dashcam video and the Lehi police report.

What will it cost me to hire your firm?

Nothing to start, and the consultation is free. You pay nothing up front, and no attorney fees unless we win.

What are the deadlines?

Four years is the general limit for an injury lawsuit, and two years for wrongful death. When Lehi City, Utah County, UTA or UDOT is involved, a notice of claim must be filed within one year.

What should I do before leaving the scene?

Call 911, accept medical care and screenshot the trip in the app. Write down the driver's name, plate and insurance, photograph the vehicles, lanes and any cones or barriers, and collect witness phone numbers and the report number.
