Where West Jordan Crashes Happen

West Jordan's serious crashes follow its growth west. Bangerter Highway now runs as freeway-style interchanges broken up by signals, Redwood Road stays wide and busy, and the Mountain View Corridor (SR-85) runs through the western neighborhoods, crossing Old Bingham Highway near 10200 South. The retail grid around Jordan Landing and 7000 South adds a steady stream of parking-lot and turning crashes. The streets where West Jordan’s crashes pile up are ranked on our West Jordan’s most dangerous roads page.

Bangerter Highway

UDOT rebuilt the busiest crossings, including 7000 South and 9000 South, into freeway-style interchanges, but signals and driveways still sit between them. Drivers carry freeway speed into the at-grade sections, and hard rear-end and sideswipe collisions follow.

Redwood Road

A wide, fast, signal-spaced arterial with apartments, bus stops and businesses on both sides. People cross on foot because the next signal is a long walk away, and pedestrian crashes here often happen in the dark and away from a marked crosswalk.

Mountain View Corridor

The newest of the major routes, built west of Bangerter. Long sight lines and light traffic between signals encourage speed, so when someone turns across the lanes or pulls out from a side street, the closing speed is high and the damage is severe.

Jordan Landing and 7000 South

A dense grid of parking aisles, drive entrances and turn lanes off Bangerter and 7000 South. Backing collisions, left turns across traffic and people walking between parked cars are a steady source of injuries.

Neighborhood collectors and school zones

West Jordan's growth has put new subdivisions, schools and parks along collector roads that also carry commuter traffic. Speed through residential streets and failures to yield at intersections are the usual argument.

The agency on scene

West Jordan Police respond inside the city, including on Bangerter, Redwood Road and Mountain View Corridor, and the Utah Highway Patrol may take some highway incidents. A crash tied to a road hazard, a construction zone or a government vehicle triggers a one-year notice-of-claim deadline.

First Medical Bills: Your PIP

Your own PIP coverage pays at least $3,000 of medical expenses and 85% of lost gross income, up to $250 a week for as long as 52 weeks, no matter who caused the crash. Read the no-fault guide.

Transport to Intermountain Medical Center in Murray alone can use much of it. To pursue the at-fault driver for pain and suffering, Utah Code § 31A-22-309 requires any one of:

  • Over $3,000 in medical expenses
  • A bone fracture of any kind
  • Permanent disability or impairment documented by objective findings
  • Permanent disfigurement, such as significant scarring
  • Dismemberment
  • Death

With one met, the at-fault driver's liability coverage is on the hook for the entire claim, and your own UM or UIM coverage fills any shortfall. See underinsured motorist claims.

Comparative Fault in West Jordan Crashes

Utah Code § 78B-5-818 subtracts your share of fault from the award and blocks recovery if your share is not smaller than the defendants' combined share.

Here the adjuster asks how fast you were leaving a Bangerter interchange, where a pedestrian crossed Redwood Road, or who was backing out at Jordan Landing. Traffic and store video, the report and early witness accounts answer those questions, if they are saved in time.

Deadlines that apply

Four years for most crash injury claims, two for wrongful death, and one year to give notice to UDOT, UTA, Salt Lake County or West Jordan City. See the deadline details.

West Jordan Crashes We Take On

Interchange and high-speed arterial crashes

Bangerter Highway and Mountain View Corridor, where freeway-speed traffic meets signals, turning vehicles and side streets.

Pedestrian crashes on wide arterials

Redwood Road and the major crossings, where people on foot cross long blocks away from marked crosswalks, often after dark.

Parking-lot and retail crashes

Jordan Landing and the retail centers along 7000 South, including backing collisions and people struck while walking to their cars.

Turning and side-street collisions

Drivers turning across fast lanes or pulling out from side streets and subdivisions. Closing speed and sight lines decide these, and both have to be documented early.

Uninsured and runaway drivers

If the other driver has no coverage or leaves, your own uninsured motorist policy may carry the claim. If that car never touched you, Utah law requires clear and convincing evidence beyond your own testimony, such as an independent witness or video, so call it in immediately.

Steps After a West Jordan Crash

  • Call 911 and stay for the report, from West Jordan Police in the city or sometimes the Highway Patrol on highway segments, and write down the agency and case number.
  • Get evaluated the same day; Intermountain Medical Center in Murray is the area's Level I trauma center. Symptoms of a concussion or fracture can be delayed.
  • Photograph the cars, lanes, signals, skid marks and debris before the scene is cleared.
  • Take witnesses' names and numbers while they are still there.
  • Tell your own insurer and start PIP, and wait on any recorded statement to the other insurer.

West Jordan crash suits are filed in Salt Lake County's Third District Court, which sits at the Matheson Courthouse in Salt Lake City and at 8080 South Redwood Road in West Jordan. We build every file as if it is headed to trial, though most settle first. Call (801) 921-5134 or request a free case review; there are no attorney fees unless we win.
