Bountiful's Crash Map

Bountiful sits on a narrow bench between the Wasatch and the Great Salt Lake marshes, and traffic between Salt Lake City and north Davis County squeezes through it on I-15, Legacy Parkway and Main Street. Neighborhood streets then climb steeply up the east bench. For the streets with the most crashes in UDOT’s records, see Bountiful’s most dangerous roads.

I-15 (with US-89)

Through Bountiful, US-89 rides on I-15 itself until the two split near Farmington. Commuter peaks and freight in both directions produce multi-car crashes where fault gets divided rather than simply assigned.

Legacy Parkway

Since January 2020 the posted limit has been 65 mph and large semi-trucks are allowed, ending the old 55-mph, no-semis agreement. Faster traffic and heavy trucks on a dark, exit-sparse road beside the wetlands shape the crashes here.

400 North (SR-106) and 500 South

400 North carries SR-106 from I-15's exit 317 into town before the route turns north on Main Street; 500 South is the other main link to the freeway. Left turns across traffic and busy shopping driveways are the usual collision.

Main Street

The old highway alignment, now a two-lane street past shops and churches, with parked cars, people crossing and cross traffic at nearly every block. Sight lines and speed are usually what gets argued.

Bountiful Boulevard and the east bench

Steep, curving residential streets with little shoulder and road cyclists year-round. Braking distance on a grade, and how much room a driver gave a rider, decide these cases.

Agencies and deadlines

Bountiful City Police handle city streets, and the Highway Patrol usually handles I-15 and Legacy Parkway. When UDOT, UTA, Davis County or the city is involved, through a work zone, a signal or a public vehicle, notice is due within one year.

Your Medical Bills

Utah's no-fault PIP on your own policy pays first: a minimum of $3,000 for medical care and 85% of gross lost wages capped at $250 a week, for up to 52 weeks. PIP in detail.

To pursue pain and suffering from the at-fault driver, Utah requires at least one of the following:

  • Medical costs exceeding $3,000
  • A fracture
  • Objectively documented permanent disability or impairment
  • Permanent disfigurement
  • Dismemberment
  • A fatal injury

Meet one and the at-fault driver's insurer owes the whole claim; if its limits fall short, underinsured motorist coverage on your policy stacks on top rather than being offset. How that stacking works.

Sharing the Blame

Utah Code § 78B-5-818 reduces what you recover by your own percentage of fault and bars recovery unless the other parties' combined fault is greater than yours.

On I-15 the argument is following distance when traffic stopped; on Legacy, speed and lane position at night; on the bench, speed through a curve. Early photos, dash and doorbell video, and witnesses keep your share down.

Deadlines to Know

Four years for most crash injuries; two years for a wrongful-death claim; one year to notify UDOT, Davis County or Bountiful City of a claim. Deadline guide.

The Bountiful Cases We See

Freeway crashes

I-15 through Bountiful and toward the Farmington split, including rear-end chains in the commuter peaks.

In-town turning crashes

400 North, 500 South and Main Street, where left turns and shopping driveways meet steady traffic.

East bench and cyclist crashes

Bountiful Boulevard and the steep streets above town, with riders sharing narrow pavement.

Legacy Parkway night crashes

Run-off-road and truck-involved collisions on the darker stretch beside the wetlands.

When the other driver has no coverage

A fleeing or uninsured driver doesn't end the claim: your UM coverage may pay, and if the other car never touched you, you need clear and convincing proof beyond your own testimony that it existed. Hit-and-run steps.

After a Bountiful Crash

  • Call 911 and get the case number: Bountiful City Police in town, the Highway Patrol on the freeways.
  • See a doctor that day. Lakeview Hospital in Bountiful is a Level III trauma center with a 24-hour emergency department.
  • Take photos of the cars, road, signs and debris before anything is moved.
  • Get names and phone numbers from anyone who saw it.
  • File your PIP claim first, and don't give the other insurer a recorded statement yet. How a claim unfolds.

If a Bountiful crash case is filed, it goes to Second District Court in Farmington (800 West State Street), the district court for Davis County. Most settle without that.
