Millcreek Streets Where Collisions Build

Millcreek became a city in 2016, and many of its busiest roads were laid out for a county suburb, not a city of roughly 63,000. Commuters heading between I-215 and the east bench share those arterials with school buses, shoppers and people walking to bus stops, and driveways open directly onto several of them. Every Millcreek street is ranked by its crash record on our Millcreek’s most dangerous roads page.

3300 South and 3900 South

East-west commuter routes lined with houses, churches and small shopping centers. The collisions we see most here involve a driver turning left across oncoming lanes or easing out of a driveway into traffic that was closer than it looked.

The I-215 ramps and nearby surface streets

Cars stacking up for an on-ramp turn routine lane changes into sideswipes, and drivers coming off the interstate often reach the first signal before they have slowed to city speed.

Highland Drive and 2300 East

North-south streets that carry more cars than their neighborhood feel suggests. Parked vehicles and old trees shorten the view at side streets, so angle crashes happen when a driver inches forward to see around them.

3900 South near St. Mark's Hospital

St. Mark's Hospital at 1200 East 3900 South draws ambulances, visitors looking for parking and patients crossing on foot. That mix of emergency vehicles, distracted drivers and pedestrians on one stretch of road calls for extra care from everyone using it.

Millcreek Canyon Road

The drive up from Wasatch Boulevard narrows fast, with curves, climbing cyclists and downhill traffic leaning on its brakes. Utah Code § 41-6a-601 bars driving faster than is reasonable and prudent for the conditions, including curves and narrow or winding roads, and that standard usually decides canyon cases.

Who writes the report in Millcreek

Millcreek contracts for police services with the Unified Police Department, whose Millcreek office is at 1330 East Chambers Avenue; the Utah Highway Patrol takes crashes on I-215. Streets here are split among the city, Salt Lake County and UDOT, so if a pothole, a dead signal or a missing sign contributed, finding the right government owner comes first.

Start With Your Own PIP Coverage

Every Utah auto policy includes personal injury protection, and it pays before anyone settles who was at fault: at least $3,000 toward medical care plus 85% of lost gross income, capped at $250 a week for up to 52 weeks (Utah Code § 31A-22-307). Our no-fault guide covers the details.

One ambulance ride and an emergency workup at St. Mark's can use that up. To claim pain, suffering and other general damages from the driver who caused the crash, Utah Code § 31A-22-309 requires at least one of these:

  • Medical bills above $3,000
  • A broken bone
  • Permanent disability or impairment shown by objective findings
  • Permanent disfigurement
  • Dismemberment
  • A death

Once you clear that bar, the at-fault driver's liability insurer answers for the whole claim. If that policy is too small, your own underinsured motorist coverage can pay on top of it; see how UIM claims work.

How Fault Gets Divided in Millcreek Crashes

Utah compares fault rather than ignoring it. Under Utah Code § 78B-5-818 your award shrinks by your own share of responsibility, and a finding that you were 50% or more at fault ends the claim.

On 3300 and 3900 South the insurer will ask whether you had already slowed to turn; on Highland Drive, whether you crept past parked cars too soon. Utah Code § 41-6a-903 makes a driver entering the road from a driveway or lot yield to traffic already on it, which often answers the question. Doorbell and business video, dashcam files and the UPD report fill in the rest, and most of that is gone within weeks.

Filing deadlines

Four years for most injury claims (Utah Code § 78B-2-307), two years for wrongful death, and one year to file a notice of claim if Millcreek, Salt Lake County, UDOT or UTA may share the blame (§ 63G-7-402). The deadline guide explains each one.

Millcreek Car Crash Claims We Take On

Left-turn and driveway collisions

On the east-west arterials, where one driver turns across traffic or noses out of a driveway into a lane that is not clear.

I-215 freeway and ramp crashes

Ramp queues and sudden braking on the interstate set off rear-end chains and sideswipes. Vehicle event data and any trucking records can be overwritten, so we ask for them right away.

Canyon and bench-road crashes

Millcreek Canyon Road and Wasatch Boulevard, where trailhead traffic, downhill drivers and riders meet. Cyclists hit by cars face fault arguments of their own.

People on foot

Pedestrians struck where a sidewalk ends or on a long block between signals. Inside a crosswalk, Utah Code § 41-6a-1002 requires drivers to slow or stop for them; our pedestrian claim guide goes further.

Uninsured and hit-and-run drivers

Your own uninsured motorist coverage often pays when the other driver has no insurance or drives away. If that vehicle never touched yours, Utah Code § 31A-22-305 demands clear and convincing evidence, beyond your own testimony, that it existed, so a witness's name can save the claim.

After a Crash in Millcreek

  • Call 911. Unified Police officers respond on city streets and the Highway Patrol on I-215; before leaving, ask for the agency name and the case number.
  • Get checked that day. St. Mark's Hospital on 3900 South is a state-designated Level II trauma center, and Intermountain Medical Center in Murray is a Level I center. Concussions and spinal injuries often surface hours later.
  • Photograph the lanes, the signal or stop sign, any parked cars that blocked your view, debris and the damage to every vehicle.
  • Ask witnesses for a name and number; neighbors and drivers waiting at the light are often the only neutral accounts.
  • Report the crash to your insurer to start PIP, and hold off on a recorded statement to the other driver's company. Here is how attorneys handle the insurance side.

If a Millcreek crash case has to be filed, it goes to the Third Judicial District Court for Salt Lake County, which hears cases at the Matheson Courthouse, 450 South State Street, and the West Jordan courthouse, 8080 South Redwood Road. Most claims settle, but we build each file as if a jury will read it. See our Millcreek personal injury page and the steps in a Utah injury case, or call (801) 921-5134. Free consultation.
